Quoting: GuestAfter watching this trailer I decided not to get this game due to woke propaganda.

What propaganda?

Quoting: drlambAnd if I don't have a computer or device capable of playing ESO?

This is such a lame argument. If you don't have hardware able to run that you can't use the bandwidth needed to stream it either. A good gigabit connection needs a beefier PC than the minimum requirements of ESO. (not even mentioning the hefty prices of capable routers)

QuoteIn other posts they also mentioned how in relation to DRM-free gaming that "98-99% of players don't care" and that if there's any "crying about DRM stuff in the gamer scene, it must come from a really vocal but tiny minority. 1-2% tiny". That's some pretty tough words for the DRM-free crowd.

Well if the DRM is obnoxious, most of the people i know are happy to wait for the DRM-free release (so to speak :) ).

Well i think on most distros you can enable automatic upgrades, that's what i usually do on the stable variants, as they tend not to break (ever) with upgrades.

Paradox to give players a lot more guidance in Crusader Kings 3 - new overview video

I really like these kinds of games but i just can't get over the DLC spam in them. I gave crusader kings 2 a try since they gave out the base game for free, and almost instantly ran into content that was blocked behind a DLC. (i played a county as female and i wanted to introduce absolute cognative succession) Considering their games each cost 1k euros (if you dont want to get locked out of options by the DLCs) i just cant really bring myself to buy any of their games. It's a shame as CK2 had good addictive gameplay, and kind of intuitive too, it only took me 2 games to figure out the basics of everything.

Seems Valve do intend to go back to SteamOS at some point

I find the constant Debian bashing quite curious. None of the "linux" distros are in a position like windows, where they essentially can do whatever and tell devs to adapt or GTFO. Devs have to adapt to it no matter what. On the other hand, the vocal linux users usually prefer the "bleeding edge" distros, and while that's perfectly okay, it is also probable they don't really need that version of every package, but rahter a handful of packages.

On the side of the enterprises, it's understandable that they want something that just works (since these programs are not open, they can't get fixes "for free" even for the trivial bugs), and for that goal i think debian or ubuntu works most similarly to windows (updates). That's why most games target these distros.

I fully agree with the commenters that say the linux compatibility is up to the companies too. I too have many games from 2010-2015 that run just fine almost 10 years later, needing no library downgrades (or manual compilation). I think most people here know that which devs or porters make those games by now.

More to the topic of SteamOS i think this just means they will roll out a new release sometime. The work on the VR stuff and their usual work on the drivers probably merit that too.

Quoting: dvdAny advice on finding active servers/times? After a 4-5 years break i recently installed it again, and found the servers dead by comparison. I'm quite excited for the new game too, but i kind of don't believe they make the new release anytime soon, due to the weird development model they are using, where even as they are making a free game and a for profit one they do not open their project up.

I don't know anything about their for-profit game. I have seen their updates for Urban Terror 5, but I've stopped expecting it anytime soon. They are currently doing alpha tests on it with community members.

There are active servers at all times of day. After starting it up, click on "Play Online" and then at the bottom left you can click on "Get New List". I sort by players so I can see which ones have the most people on them, but occasionally I sort by ping just so I'm not at a major disadvantage.

What do you mean? UrT is not for profit, but it is nonetheless close source, and the development (including code and assets) are kept tightly in control with the core devs (frozen sand). As for the servers, i've only found 1-2 active servers, both of which have horrible pings to me.

Quoting: JJNovaI have been bouncing back and forth between Urban Terror and Deponia. I bought all of the Deponia games years ago for a few bucks each, and just started going through my backlog.

Urban Terror on the other hand, is always installed and ready to go at a moments notice. I'm quite excited for the next release and hope it happens in 2020.

Valve making steps to address toxic behaviour on Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

... The toxic masculinity (and that's what we're talking about here in the end) that has more or less defined gaming culture since its inception needs to be finally removed from it.

Oh I think you forgot to mention that it is WHITE toxic masculinity! Of course women (and divers people?) do never show toxic behavior. Masculinity is the root of all evil (at least in the gaming world)!

It is really sad, that you bring this nonsense into the discussion. Hope you can find the irony.

I have no clue about their skin color, nor that it matters. You can't really see that stuff in chat, or in voice com. Shocking, I know! But what I can tell you is that in the cases I was able to ascertain their gender, 100% of the people that ever harassed me online were male. To you and your personal version of reality, it might be nonsense. To me - you're probably a part of the problem. Among things because your post made it evident that you're clearly in denial mode, because you felt a need to ridicule my point like that instead of addressing it in a mature fashion. Gosh, were have we seen THAT rhetoric before?

Honestly, i play way less online games than i used to, and it's mainly because of the gahmer posturing that constantly goes on. And i haven't even met one of the real toxic ones. In CS, the very few times i play it, i enjoy having voice turned off, and i will probably enjoy turning the chat off too. I stay away from the competetive game mode anyway.

On the topic it would be great if they managed to get a system going that discouraged bad behaviour.
