Civ VI Steam forum mods banning users for expressing Linux support

Quoting: MaCroX95I just don't understand why Windows users have this urge to bombard us on forums...
There is a certain amount of emotional investment for some people in their choice of operating system and when they see others using something else they take it as a slight on the way they do things, or a choice they made. It's very silly, and most people don't realise they are doing it. For the same reason iPhone and Android users will have holy wars about their choice of phone OS too.

This is a lot of the reason that when a user attempts to use Linux and its not precisely the same as Windows they get annoyed with it and say Linux is terrible. I don't convert people to Linux, but if people do opt to try it I tell them "If you expect Linux to be 1:1 like Windows, you're gonna have a bad time".

User Editorial: Steam Machines & SteamOS after a year in the wild

I think the biggest issue that valve has (and highlighted in this editorial) is their short attention span. VR is the new toy, once that is "perfected" they could move onto something else. First they lost interest in Single player games, then making new games at all. Then SteamOS became a bit hum drum, VR could be the next fad they get over. They owe it to the people who use their technologies for there to be a caretaker to keep it all together.

Perhaps once Valve "proper" has their fun with the initial R&D side of things, they need to hire people outside of their standard flat organisational structure to be the caretakers of these products. Even if it means forming sub companies, sort of like how 2k has sub studios. Another "Valve" Studio could take on maintenance and future features of the project that the core Valve team has got bored of.

Quoting: tmtvlNot if they don't upgrade their boxes.

If you're not going to upgrade it, then why bother with a rolling release? The longer you leave an Arch box without upgrades the more likely that upgrades will break it anyway

Quoting: ElectricPrismI've converted 7 people so far. Elementary was the first stop, and the second stop was Arch - it helps to make a Install Guide listing software, utilities etc and things to do with a vanilla install.

Rolling release is so nice... I love it so much.
Don't give newbies arch, when an untested package breaks it they are going to blame "Linux" and go back Windows. In the process they will tell everyone their horrible experience with Linux.

Rolling Releases are great when you have the know how to fix it. Casual users belong on more stable distros

Feral Interactive are teasing another new Linux & Mac port with a new clue

Those of you discounting Doom due to lack of OpenGL 4.5 or Vulkan are forgetting Metal

I imagine the technical challenge for porting Doom would be the fact that OS X doesnt support OpenGL 4.5 or Vulkan, so they would have to do a port over to Metal. Since a Linux port is trivial perhaps Feral would simply take on the supporting of the platform. The previous id Linux ports were never really supported, they were just dumped on the id ftp server and said "have at it".
Aspyr did the port of Rage to OS X, that would have been trivial too. Is also a precedent for id games going through a porting house
