Quoting: liamdaweFrankly, anything is better than the current name. I refuse to say GIMP, it's actually embarrassing.
It's a slippery slope though. This one gets a bit of focus because it means something in English. But there is a ton of stuff going around that means other things in a lot of other languages. Change this one for this reason and the rest will have to change as well.

Steam Play Proton 4.11 released, a pretty huge release pulling in D9VK and a replacement for esync

Quoting: liamdaweAlso, sorry for the delay everyone. Yesterday was my 31st birthday so I took a rare 100% day off, I'm in catch-up mode now.
I'm surprised you managed that! :D Well done! You should probably do it more often.

I'm particularly interested in this new release because it includes the updates needed to use the new Index controllers in games that have specific support for them. And now the temperature is dropping again, I can continue my VR adventures.

Quoting: GuestUnless you're sure that your HUD works in all OpenGL games no matter what, a better method to verify would be to uninstall Vulkan...
No need, NVidia overlay says it uses Vulkan.

As I said above, the reason that this game performs badly is rooted in much more fundamental problems.

Quoting: GuestConclusion: UE4 has abysmal performance on Linux, getting roughly half the frame rate of Proton. Epic: please get all platforms using Vulkan inside your engine ASAP.
While that may be true, I don't think this particular game is really a good demonstration of it. Even though Proton gives higher fps, the performance is still horrible for what it's doing. Especially on resolutions higher than 1080p. There are serious problems in this game that appear to be present on all platforms. They just hit Linux harder because it now drops below comfortable framerates.

Quoting: slaapliedjeHotdogs, Horseshoes, and Hand Grenades sadly don't detect the Index controllers for me, instead I see a model of the Vive controllers just floating there. Yet it works with full index controller support in Windows.
Yeah, that's the part that needs the proton update.

Things I picked up:

Apparently Proton needs an update to its OpenVR to make the Index work properly in some games. Updates are merged but not released I think.

Some games are mapped really strangely for the Index controllers. (Serious Sam for instance. An update to the game is incoming)

Even though Linux is supported, it's still a bit of work to get everything set up properly. The most annoying limitation is that it won't turn off the base stations and has me pull the power from them manually. Nothing too problematic for me as I didn't expect a fully smooth ride.

The worst thing is that my VR playing is on hold for a bit. Putting a VR headset on with 35 degrees is just not a pleasant experience.

Quoting: EhvisSo if I understand this correctly, Epic paid 30M to get the largest prize pool. Then Valve earned 90M to beat them again?
120M in that case.
No, 30M is for the prize pool.

Think you're good at CS:GO Danger Zone? It now has Skill Groups for you to show off

A while ago I played a not so high ranked match with someone to fill a group. It was pretty funny. I the whole match I never saw anyone shoot me. :D Obviously I never had a chance to get a single kill in. Second match was a little better. I managed about 5 kills! Not exactly matching up to the 30+ kills of my silver ranked team mates.

Back to casual Danger Zone for me. :P
