Valheim is just an incredible experience you need to play

Pretty much represents my thoughts on the game. Spent 40 hours in the game and only killed two bosses, but enjoyed every minute of it. Although there are some practical issues, I've never actually felt like this was an early access game. Almost everything feels like it was properly done. Major points for the progression and food/health/regen system.

I'll mention a few small gripes for balance :) Attack an enemy that is below you (even if it's only a small step) is near impossible. I think this problem relates to the fact that when I pickaxe a rock, you very easily hit the ground instead. Something not quite natural with the aiming at close distance. I also would really like to build outward from a floor while standing on it, but you have to lean over the ledge (minecraft style) to do that.

Edit: I still have the vulkan shader problem though. A clean start and it will run perfectly. But start it a second time and the game lock in a black screen before the main menu (sound is there though). Deleting the Vulkan shader cache makes it run again. Since I can't be bothered to do that every time, I'm running OpenGL now. Anybody else have this?

Building a Retro Linux Gaming Computer - Part 3: Installing Red Hat Linux 9
16 Mar 2021 at 10:00 am UTC

Never really did the red hat thing myself. I used Slackware from the very early days and only ever exchanged that for a period of Gentoo up to at least 2004. It's funny that I can't remember at all how much memory I was using in those days. But I am pretty sure I still used my old Pentium 200 MMX in the early 2k years. Probably somewhat underpowered for gaming.

Quoting: tuubiIf you're looking for similar games on Linux, both Quern [External Link] and Haven Moon [External Link] are worth playing.
I finished Haven Moon. And my Steam client keeps bugging me to play Quern .

Quoting: tuubiNot challenging? So it's a modern tribute to Myst for those who didn't actually like the Myst series?
I tried to express something along these lines but failed, mainly because I didn't actually play Myst. I got the impression that it was hard in some... unpleasant way. So references to Myst are actually putting me off, though I do like hard puzzlers.
It's been ages since I played Myst, but I don't recall it being very difficult. It's follow-up Riven I never managed to finish. Maybe I should give that one a go again. 20 years of experience could lead to new insights :)

I generally like my puzzle games a bit harder, but for the price it could be nice. Bonus points for it being fairly short.

Building a Retro Linux Gaming Computer - Part 2: Selecting a Graphics Card

I remember from those days that I had specifically settled for an S3 Vision 868 card because of the excellent driver that included xv support. And I did have a Voodoo2 which I managed to get to work when I switched to Linux as my primary os in 2002. Then in 2004 I did my first full Linux oriented build and got an nvidia card. Times were a bit different then.

Quoting: GoboFrom the first first search result [External Link] for "usb logo" on Google:
It was different enough for me not to notice it. The only thing it really has in common is a circle, a triangle and a square. Not exactly the ground breaking part of the design I would say.

Griftlands from Klei Entertainment to arrive on Linux in May, full launch this Summer

I don't think Klei has ever let me down. Not with the quality of their releases (even in ea). And we always get a Linux build somewhere during EA. That all screams must have!

If only AMD could do something to the drivers to make it uninteresting for miners.

It is still a survival game, so there is the part of grinding for resources that just takes more time when you do it alone. However, the game progression is actually quite suitable for solo play (which is what I've done so far) because it needs you to achieve goals to get new things and you can do that at your own pace. Haven't felt a specific need for additional hands yet.
