Pro: it's still playable

Con: performance got a lot worse after patches some months back; graphical bugs got introduces and not fixed; proper AA does not work on Linux, nor does does surround sound despite both being launcher option for years. 1st person gunner positions are only modelled under DirectX.

If they ever finish their Vulkan integration things might change, but for now I am pissed enough that I deleted the game after years of playing.
I see. Performance was pretty good on vulkan. The openGL performance is certainly lacking. In air RB with highest settings, I can see down into the 40s. While vulkan may hit the 80s in certain points but average over 110. But it is broken now. Never played in windows so didn't know about gunners. I have over 700 hours of flight time. Well worth of 1000 in game, menus que times etc.

Quoting: m0nt3Have you tried a match? About 2min into a match is when I get the crash. Otherwise it is fine. I tried mesa-git as well as the default mesa for ubuntu 18.10. I get a couple of pop-up windows about submitting a crash report and one is about the error, but does not give any detailed message. I cannot remember what the error was, but I can check when I get home.
Yeah, you seem to be right, sadly. It crashed for me when I tried just now.
Was running really good with vulkan too, I have been playing a lot recently. I actually switched to regular ubuntu to play in vulkan since other DE seem to give me black screens. Hopefully they will get it fixed soon. I actually have rendering errors in opengl that I did not have in vulkan. For instance, when spectating in an air match, I will get black bars on the ground in openGL, but vulkan everything renders correctly and faster.
blackscreen with sound? i have this bug on kubuntu.
"killall kwin_x11" helps
and after exit the game ALT+SPACE -> kwin_x11 -> ENTER (if you do that ingame, it turns black again)

this problem exists for months

Yes, I get this on at least KDE and cinnamon. Gnome is perfectly fine.

Works well here with Mesa 18.2.3 on Arch running the Vulkan renderer. The thumbnail used for this article was taken by me when messing around in test drive mode with Vulkan.

Unfortunately this new updates causes the game to crash when using vulkan. The performance benefits to vulkan were quite nice. Mesa git has several performance problems with openGL and will induce lots of stuttering. Default meaa on ubuntu 18.10 is fine.

Quoting: DamonLinuxPLAnyone know if they fix OpenGL performance on Linux? Or still perform bad?
Ever since 1.79 I can play on movie settings and stay mostly over 90fps now. I used to have really bad performance without setting DPM to high instead of auto (forcing max clock speeds on GPU) Now I do not have to do that. I'm running Debian buster with mesa 18.2.0 from the experimental repos. This is on my RX 480. I see you are using a 5850, when I last tried with my 6950 i had bad performance and tuns of graphical glitches. I can test again with my 6950, although I have a feeling even the FX 8350 will be holding it back

Because it is not scheduled for release until sometime in Spring 2019 according to steam.
But with Proton, I would advertise my games as early as possible, if I were Feral... We are talking 8-10 months from now... It's not that far.

Edit: This said... Working with Fire and Steel from China Crisis is considered New wave / Post Punk music... Just saying... :)
I do not think, historically, games that appear under the soon section of the feral radar are 8-10 months out. Since F1 2018 is likely an easy port because of F1 2017 and it was on the radar before steam play was officially announced, therefore feral stuck with their radar plans. We shall see how feral handles things going forward, I do believe they need to be as transparent as possible in order to collect money from ports, instead of steam play. They have used wine as a reason for not porting older games before. We shall see. Also, feral has not put a game out on the radar that was not out for Windows. So F1 2018 and less likely shadow of war. That said, I really would prefer shadow of war.
In fact I personnally expect to see a port of Shadow of the Tomb Raider because of the previous two games that already got ported. A day-one linux release, like what happened with Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, would be awesome, but one may dream and I totally don't know how it could relate to the clues...
I do suspect we will get Shadow of the Tomb Raider, just not sure on when. I doubt it is this radar blip. It has almost been a year since shadow of war was released. A close to day one release of Shadow of the Tomb Raider would be amazing. Which is something feral needs to do, especially with proton having launched and changing the market. I am just not sure if feral would put a game on the radar that doesnt release for another month. As long as its not RTS or Total War i am gtg.
