ZED from Eagre Games and Cyan Ventures is out for Linux now, it’s quite an experience (plus an interview)

Quoting: PhlebiacSorry to hear the publisher tried to kill the Linux support,
The goal has always been to try and get people to adopt Linux in the future. They had a mistaken idea about what Linux gaming is as we know MANY devs/publishers do, and I've worked to correct the perception. The best way to correct this perception is with your wallet an vocal support.

Quoting: tumocsI know what he's trying to say there but it's still quite funny.
That's incredibly generous of you. I don't even know what I was trying to say.

Quoting: CorbenBut that's pretty cool to read, so those devs you talked to seem to have some interest in our favorite platform. Nevertheless, I've heard from other devs, that their sales are more like what the e.g. steam hardware survey shows. There are exceptions of course, like Helium Rain, who shared some numbers and wrote to have 10% Linux sales. Which is awesome!
Give me 11% Linux - I'm a GoL user!!

Actually, most devs see Linux as a far afterthought it seems. The devs I've talked to who are most serious about Linux are actually really oldschool devs who've been in AAA for multiple decades. Weird, huh? Another interesting thing that came up at a convention was that devs see a lot of Linux comments online, but never see anyone in person asking for Linux. That could be because Linux gamers have little incentive to go to a convention that features 99% Windows and console games, but the lack of physical presence might hold developers back. As I said, I'm trying to change that.

Quoting: Sojiro84I also support developers that make a Linux version. Thanks for the interview.
Thanks. The best thing you can do is leave a review/comment for the developers on Steam to tell them "thank you" for the Linux release. This allows someone like me to return to our publisher, who wanted to ax the Linux version but keep Mac, and say "This is why you build for Linux, and you should make your future games for Linux as well."

Quoting: EhvisBut from the Steam discussions a big question remains for me. Can I rebind the WASD (and other keys) to something that actually works for me?
Soon. This is in a future quality-of-life update. Arrow keys also work.

Quoting: CorbenWhere does this impression come from? From all statistics I've seen, Linux is never 5x the market of Mac.
1) Thank so much for backing.
2) From Wishlists and general community engagement and traffic we've had from our Kickstarter to Discord, Linux has represented at minimum 5x the users. There aren't that many Mac gamers, and one thing I get from other devs is that they don't open their wallets as much either.

I talk to a lot of other developers who say "How are you getting hundreds of wishlists on Linux?" and I say "you're not?" and they say "no!" -- "Well, are you building for Linux?" "...no" - "Maybe that's why you're not getting the engagement then."

Surreal adventure game 'ZED' about an artist suffering from dementia is releasing in June

Hey guys,

Really sorry about the delay. We were supposed to start our Linux beta test last week (thanks to KS backers and some awesome folks from GoL Discord) but everything got ruined. We ended up having to upgrade engine versions last second to fix a major flaw and then the game would always think it was running in VR on Unix when a headset wasn't connected.... We figured it's best not to punk around and make sure Unix systems aren't completely wrecked. Hoping to start Linux beta by early next week and get the native Linux version out as soon as humanly possible.

Any questions please track me down. Send hatemail to dpanter.

The narrative adventure 'ZED' looks beautiful in the new trailer, releasing in the Spring

ZED by Eagre Games reaches the funding goal, developer thanks GOL and the Linux community

Hey guys, I'm the guy quoted in Liam's post.

Didn't realize he was giving an update here (thanks!) but saw many comments today saying GoL brought them back, and decided to say hi.

Kickstarter makes use of some very neat analytical software. As of writing this, PCGamer has accounted for 12 backers and 0.52% of our support, and IGN has accunted for about the same. GoL generated 25 pledges for us, and the r/Linux_Gaming subreddit which I'm sure many of you are familiar with has brought in tons of traffic.

It goes much further than backer-generation though, you folks have given us really positive feedback and messages of support on GoL, Reddit, IRC, and even our Kickstarter page. It's been really helpful and motivating to us as creators to see people enthusiastic and supportive of the work we're trying to do bringing this to the Linux platform. As I've said in the past, I want to use this as an excuse to show developers they have no excuse not to build for Linux.
