GOG to go through some reorganization after suffering losses

I don't consider that a stranglehold at all. It's more like a single loving embrace to turn to in a cold and hateful world.
Even on the Windows side, Valve simply provides more to customers. Steam is just that good. No one has released a compelling competitor to Steam. They seem to think they can break Valve's back without doing that. Why would anyone want to pay the same money somewhere else only to receive less for it? Compared to Steam some of these operations look like spyware distributors or scammers.

Quoting: GuestSeems to me like it is exceedingly difficult for any PC game store to be profitable unless they sell Steam keys (or they are a big publisher profitable in other areas), such is the nature of Valve's stranglehold on PC gaming. I know so many linux users don't like a bad word said about Valve but their market power should concern everyoneI mean as a Linux user as far as I'm concerned Steam is the nearly only one that even exists because they're the one of only two (the other is Itch) that I can think of/have ever heard of with an official Linux client or that provide any Linux support. I mean why would I go out of my way to give money to people whose software I can't even run?

I bought four copies of this game back when for myself and three of my Windows-using friend group. They probably wouldn't have played the game were it not for me.
After playing it off and on for a while... there came a point where I couldn't get on. It was always Garry saying something nasty about Linux, Linux-only game breaking bugs, and then when they pulled Linux support the writing was on the wall that it was dead.
I have fired it up since then, to test out my new machine.. and I've long been interested in some of the new things they're adding but it was clear that my access to the game was fragile so I mostly disinvested myself from it.
For them to say they're freezing their Linux version because no one plays it.. after they did basically nothing to retain Linux users seems disingenuous to me.
Now it's clear that I won't ever be able to try out any of the new stuff.. so, I guess that's that.

DXVK has no purpose apart from Wine.
It doesn't matter if Wine uses DXVK, because DXVK is made for Wine.

I wish they would not pull the native version just because they can't make it work on someone's poorly maintained Ubuntu box stuck on some ancient trash version of libraries.
Who knows what they even tried? In this case I wish they'd have asked for help instead of just punting to Steam Play. I don't think that windows gamedevs are always particularly experienced with troubleshooting programs on Linux. I've had games that I had to run under strace to figure out why they wouldn't launch. If a build can be run at all: I will find a way. I don't think I'm unique in this regard either.

He's basically saying that Linux users don't deserve support because he doesn't like our attitude. Hard not to take that personally.
