Talking point - what have you been playing lately?

After 70 hours or so I just finished Immortals Fenyx Rising that was recently given away by Ubisoft. Overall a good game in the Ubi style of a large map with lots of "points of interest" to explore. Decent, if relatively simple, puzzles and combat, but the story and dialog are terrible. After 60+ hours it was all getting a bit same-y so I rushed through the main story to finish the game.

I just got War Mongrels from a Fanatical bundle which I hope will fill the real-time tactics void that Mimimi left. I've only played half an hour or so and, though I don't think it'll be up to Mimimi standards (and the controls are annoying), it looks pretty good.

Also tried once again to get into Outer Wilds with not much luck but will persevere...

I own Nuclear Throne on itch as a result of bying it in four charity bundles over the years, but the downloadable binaries have not been updated since 2016, and I doubt they will this time either. I also own the game on Steam so I don't much care but I would not get it on itch.

I realize most Linux folks don't like the Ubi launcher (or seemingly any non-Steam launcher for that matter) but, for what it's worth, I installed the Ubi launcher as a non-Steam game in Steam, logged in once and installed the game without any issues, and then added "uplay://launch/5405/0" to the Steam launch options.

Now when I click Play Fenyx in Steam, the Ubi launcher automatically starts up, minimizes itself to the taskbar, and takes me straight into the game - no interaction with the Ubi launcher needed, except to click the close button when I exit the game. In fact, the majority of the wait time is spent waiting for Steam to start up...

Frankly, I've always thought this worship of the Steam client and aversion to other launchers a bit silly, especially for free games: in the end, I spend 99.999% of my time in-game, not staring at a launcher, whether Steam or otherwise. Normally I wouldn't even use Steam to launch non-Steam games on my desktop (Wine with DXVK works fine), but in this case Proton seems to fix problems with cutscene audio.

Important note from their FAQ [External Link]:

How long do I have redeem my content from bundle purchases?

As a best practice, all Steam keys have a 90-day redemption window. After that, unredeemed and unrevealed keys will expire and be returned to the developer.

Just finished My Time at Sandrock [External Link] after about 200 hours - excellent game with solid mechanics, lots of humour, and even some touching moments. As an evolution of My Time at Portia it was pretty much what I had hoped for!

I also finished American Arcadia [External Link] in a few hours - I was expecting a point & click adventure but instead it's an interesting mix of platforming and puzzle game. Impressive presentation, great voice acting, decent story with some twists - the only annoying aspect was the opaque checkpoint system, but overall it's a game worth your time!

Now intermittently playing Road 96 [External Link] on the Deck and The Multi-Medium [External Link] on the PC while trying to decide what to play next. I was going to finally start Baldur's Gate 3 [External Link], but I'll give it some more time for the native Deck/Linux version to bake (hey, I've waited this long...)

I think I will play Outer Wilds [External Link] instead, a game that I've owned for years and started a few times but inexplicably never progressed past the starting area. I guess it's finally time to see if it's really the masterpiece that everyone says it is...

Amazon Luna cloud gaming relaunched, with Prime Gaming merged in and a new AI game

Good guess, but nope, just a regular deb installation directly from Google on Debian Linux, like it always was before it stopped working.

If anyone can confirm that a controller works for them with Luna in Chrome on Linux, I can continue troubleshooting my system - but it would be good to know first that it's working for others and it's not some Chrome/Luna issue that I won't be able to resolve.

Has anyone been able to get a controller working with Luna running in Chrome on Linux? I have an 8bitdo Wired Ultimate (though I'm certain I tried other controllers as well), which used to work fine, but not anymore. The funny thing is that Luna/Chrome seem to recognize the controller since I get the message "Your controller is now ready" but none of the controls work. I've seen a few posts about this but unfortunately no resolution.

The NVidia installer now asks "Multiple kernel module types are available for this system. Which would you like to use?" with the options being "NVIDIA Proprietary" and "MIT/GPL" - anyone care to summarize what you get with MIT/GPL?
