Really? I would say that it is not so good. It has a good potential, but the potential was not utilized sufficiently.

I am very disappointed in this game. I can't even run it and devs completely ignore it.

I don't think you can consider them as three separate games, I don't think they are even presented like that. Even wiki has a single page for them. They are on level of expansion pack I would say.
I can't remember any Linux related misbehaviourI was backer of BT. Was I informed that there would be no beta for linux? Nope. That Linux will be after release? In very bad tone.

HBS have kept their promise with Shadowrun, which was promised post-launch (if I remember correctly) and arrived as promised. But they didn't make ANY other game on Tux. And they promised a beta for BT on linux, which was not delivered, then linux at launch, which wasn't delivered either. It is not that HBS have a good history of Tux support. In fact, this is supposed to be their second linux release. And they already shows behaviour common to other "not so good" companies (like... total lack of communication about it)

PoE has different engine and while this by itself won't make it significantly different, it is significantly different from design perspective, meaning that some design decision significantly influenced properties of the system, such as inability to gain experience outside of quests, monster abilities and similar things, which has dominant impact on how the game can be played.
The outcome is that BG, ID and PoE are all significantly different game and if you liked one, it doesn't mean that you will like the other.
Example: BG has closer to Fallout or Arcanum than to ID or PoE. ID is closer to various hack & slash games, such as Temple of Elemental Evil, which was mostly dungeoncrawl (or so I believe) lacking open world. And PoE is relatively linear with significantly prescribed way how you can play it, which is very limiting.

Quoting: razing32BG and ID are already significantly different game. In BG (at least 1), freedom of movement and exploration is a big thing, ID is mainly combat focused with a little to do otherwise. This is despite they are games build on the same engine.Quoting: stretch611I think that I have to dust off the first one and play it. It looks good. (I got the first through a Humble Monthly and never played it.)If you like Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale you are in for a treat indeed.

And no, I wasn't speaking about "competitive games", fact that you even mention that means that you don't know my and you don't know what I am talking about. Games like Caesar and Pharaoh or Industry Giant and so on, had always specific conditions and specific scenario with win condition. Games like SimCity didn't exactly, but even then, they had enough challenges to overcome and enough tools to make the scenarios varied (in 3000/4000, you could specialize your city to be a worktown, livingtown, commerce town or farm town easily, in C:S, there are very limited way how to progress and you always end up setting up office buildings if you want to educate your population, there are no high-tech industry, no high-tech farms and so on). And yes, its like lego, with limited set of bricks, but lego is not game, lego is toy.

Quoting: KimyrielleThere is a mod that unlocks everything at game start. Just get that! That being said...I don't know how it's done in good ol' Europe, but in 'murica people really don't put subways into rural towns. :DIn Europe, a lot of small villages have train connection and buses are almost everywhere. The fact that I need mod to allow something is weird in the first place. But even then, C:S doesn't have enough tools to specialize cities and make them distinct or interesting.
About the gaming thing...I guess the slower pace and the lack of have-to-prove-how-awesome-you-are boss fights that "gamers" seem to love so much is what makes C:S appealing to some of us in the first place. It is really just about taking a bit of real estate and build something nice on it. You know...like..Lego? Some consider that fun, too! ;)

There is very little game in C:S, its more like one big painter box when you can pain stuff that looks nicely.

Quoting: KimyrielleThe problem is that mass transit options are locked behind population limit like in some retarded murician cities. The whole town progression seems to be retardly murician, locking you out of facilities and disabling to do any specific town specialization.Quoting: STiATBut some DLCs are pretty fun :-).I found it not too hard to do when using a proper mix of public transportation and a decent road network. I guess the most common mistake is building a 1970s-style "built for cars" city, and forgetting to build mass transit options. Like in real life, that will result in 24/7 congestions. :D
It's a game well deserved, played that one for hours, built wonderful cities. Though, I really suck at properly controlling traffic.
