Remembering an indie gem with Osmos over 10 years later

One of my all time favourite games, and it has aged not at all. Could possibly do with a graphical uplift for current resolution screens but even that is not at all necessary. Get it if you haven't got it already.

The Linux market share appears to continue rising with Ubuntu winning

WSL2, Steam and Proton, news about Linux preinstalled and supported by Dell and Lenovo, explicitly bringing up Linux support in a VM for the new OSX - perhaps it's just the constant flow of positive news and exposure about Linux. It leads more people (mostly developers and devops I suspect) to take a closer look and try it out on the desktop.

Crashed Lander was a positive surprise. Neat little game along the lines of "What if you made the 40+ year old Moonlander game today?".

I've never used or bought anything on itch.io. I think it's time I did.

Microsoft president admits they were wrong on open source

I lived through the 90's and the attacks against open source by Microsoft. I have no reason to like or trust them.

But they are clearly a different company than they were 15-20 years ago. Companies consist of people, and as people change, so can companies. As a comment said above, actions speak louder than words, and Microsofts actions have definitely changed radically for the better during this past generation.

I do not fully trust any company, and I trust large companies less than small ones - they have more power to wield - but today I don't see a reason to trust Microsoft any less than, say, Google or IBM, and I certainly trust them more than the likes of Amazon or Oracle.

I got the Parklife DLC giveaway which sucked me back into Cities Skylines.

I'm also still playing Underlords, as well as Into The Breach (which got some much needed tweaks and a native Linux version).

But a lot of my extra free time has gone into playing with my Pinebook Pro. Amazingly, gaming is not impossible on it.

If you're self-isolating and in need, here's a bunch of awesome free Linux games

And if you do have some spare cash, it's worth mentioning that Mindustry, Wesnoth (and perhaps others) are available on Steam for pay. You can support the creators with a bit of coin and grind those sweet, sweet Steam achievements too.

As Puppygames reflect on the release of Basingstoke, they say it financially ruined them

It's a fun game; I bought it when it was released.

I think one mistake in selling the game is that the interactive intro - and the Steam intro video - gives the impression of a fairly frantic shooter kind of game, when in reality you're spending most of your time quietly creeping about trying to avoid being noticed.

The intro very nearly stopped me from buying it; and I can imagine some buyers wondering where all the action is once they start playing.

Somebody else has at least briefly tested the updates before you get them. Reduces the chance of breakage.

I'm an old Ubuntu user, but I installed Manjaro Arm on my new PBP, and it has been a very pleasant experience. Can highly recommend it, and I might even try "regular" Manjaro on my desktop later on.
