Xid 31 is GPU memory page fault (driver, app issue)

To me happens every single day more than few times!

And they could improve nvidia-smi, as of now I see only one GPU details and my system has two GPUs...

I had this issue for several months this fall starting with 384.59, and it was fixed for me in 387.22. Currently I'm on 387.34. I tried several times to report it to NVIDIA, but their website had all sorts of issues with me logging in.

I was able to reproduce the issue when the nvidia-uvm module was loaded, which was when anything "cuda" related was done. I like to watch YT or Twitch through MPV and use hardware acceleration to do so, so any time I used mpv I would get another error message in the system log. I dug through the g00gs search results along with various forums and docs to try and find out if there was something wrong with the card or if I should be concerned.

Sorry you have this, but I'm glad that I'm not the only one who ever saw it :) What driver version are you using?

Good time to point out the art of chattr +i file Unless you've gone through a more elaborate user/group management setup for Steam, it has the same file access rights you do on game files. If you make it read only (e.g. with chmod) then Steam could just overwrite that.

That's where chattr (change file attributes, see also lsattr, list attributes). When the file is made immutable not even root can modify, delete, rename, symlink or hardlink it.

There are some caveats w/r/t root access, but if Steam has root access on your machine, you have bigger problems than protecting a game config :S:

Hopefully that helps anyone who needs to lock down a file. (Remember '+' adds the attribute, and '-' removes it)

I've got to disagree on this one. I had one issue right when I got it last year, but that was just a firmware update that I believe impacted all OS. Other than that, it's been smooth sailing.

I wish I would have had a controller like this as a kid! The build quality is amazing, it feels great to play, and it can be infinitely customized.

I don't know what else I would ask for in a controller at this price ($58.99, Amazon, free shipping) or double this price. To me, it's apparent that a lot of work went into the design, form, and function to produce a controller that works with (almost?) every game I've ever thrown at it. /rant :P

Works without issues for me, on Ubuntu 17.04, always has for as long as I've had it.

So you are saying that the Steam Controller vibrates in Ubuntu 17.04 but not in Steam OS which is based on Debain? Valve once again doesn't know how to market to console players.

Well now I might get what you mean a little more. So Vibration based on in game actions, rather than the general Haptic feedback?

Yea wasn't steam OS marketed to console players? Yea I was talking about haptic feedback. That's a big feature to forget to add. Plus it works in left for dead 2 which is so silly.

Yea I don't understand how? I read that Steam OS doesn't support rumble in the Steam controller. I'm taking about vibration you feel when playing games like Saints Row IV. Now in windows the Steam controller does support vibration in games.

Dude, come on. Multiple people have said (and I'll ++1) that haptic feedback just works. Not trying to be sarcastic here, but sometimes you just have to dig in yourself instead of reading into all the negative bias that unfortunately creeps into many gaming discussions. If I had a TV show on Discovery, I'd say this myth is busted.

I meant to tag someone else.. but I already feel like this reply is a bit too long. Regarding the shipping - see the comment above regarding Amazon. That's where I got mine, and it's still sold by Valve, just a different distribution channel.

Ron seems like a great guy who is honestly still doing game development because he loves his job, the culture, and the art. I'm really glad to see this game getting so much press from all around.

It's nice that he noted how important supporting Linux (and MacOS) is; if I read one more FAQ that says "We're a small team with limited resources, this is a possible for a sequel, version two, etc..." re: "Will there be a Linux release", I think I'll go crazy. I'd rather it not be mentioned -- it's as if they KNOW it's asked frequently enough to mention it, but they can't hit the export button on Unity :|
