If there already is a native port, it is always better to fix that port (if possible/feasible) instead of just nuking it and relying on the Windows version running using Proton.

Given the age & performance of the port ( pre proton ? ) they should probably pull it if they are no longer supporting the linux version consistently. Proton's performance now often exceeds native compared with the windows version.No. They should fix the native port. Maybe add a Vulkan renderer if possible. Proton (Wine + DXVK) is a great thing for running Windows games on Linux (SteamOS), but it should not be a replacement solution for actual native ports.

Why do developers even bother with Native Linux when Proton exists and is a lot more stable ? This was a total waste of time. Why even bother with Linux when Windows exists?

This was also preceded by the original developers being acquired by a "big investor" if I remember correctly. What followed was a shift in their plans by a 180 degrees.

Their "official app" is still not available on Flathub and must be installed manually by running the provided binary blob installer. Better using one of the already available (and safely sandboxed) ones on Flathub.
