System76 fighting for open source being excluded from Colorado age checks

Quoting: CaldathrasYou are assuming that most people even care or know what operating system is on the device.
You’re putting words in my mouth. What I’m assuming is that if their devices annoy them, they will complain to vendors, and the vendors will lobby against the law when the customer service it requires or the bad press it generates become too much of a burden/liability.

HORSES wins the 2026 Nuovo Award despite the bans from Steam and Epic Games

The Nuovo Award or Innovation Award is an award given at the Independent Games Festival (IGF), an annual event that takes place during the Game Developers Conference, one of the largest gatherings of the indie video game industry. The award is given to honor "abstract, shortform, and unconventional game development which advances the medium and the way we think about games". The award was designed as a way for art games to compete with traditional indie games.

Quoting: g000hAs soon as Californians are no longer able to legally run Linux, their own citizens will go after this law and end the moronic political overreach.
This assumes that the majority of Californians are Linux users.
They are. Linux runs virtually everything that's not a PC. What types of devices will fall under each law's purview? Smart watches? Routers? CCTV systems? Car entertainment systems? The farther it reaches, the more it hurts people's convenience and risks overcoming their complacency.

Unity announce expanded support for Steam, Native Linux, Steam Deck and Steam Machine

Quoting: GustyGhostI've been playing Linux native games (Unity, no less) that I had bought ten years ago without any issue. What is there left to improve?
This is for developers, not gamers.

Quoting: KandarihuI don't think that this is the right approach. As much as I want Linux to grow as a platform, this gives us an unfair advantage. The better choice will be to scrap/abolish such legislation entirely.
On the other hand, pointing out the flaws in the legislation in the process of requesting exclusions weakens the arguments for the rest of the bill to move forward as well — and should it fail to stop it completely, I’d rather free software be excluded from it than not.

Xbox "Project Helix" confirmed to run Xbox and PC games - competition for the Steam Machine

It’s always funny to me to see companies getting excited about selling a console that’s going to be a little closer to a desktop computer. Meanwhile I’m here with my desktop computer playing more games than their console will ever support on top of doing everything else.

Unity CEO says an upcoming Beta will allow people to "prompt full casual games into existence"
18 Feb 2026 at 2:46 pm UTC Likes: 8

I think it’s great. We will get exponentially more games to choose from, and fewer people will be able to play them due to computer parts becoming constantly more expensive in the middle of a shaky economy. Give it a few years and demand will have been driven to the ground while offer skyrockets. Hopefully that’s enough to kill the AAA segment 🤣

I wonder how well this works in online multi. The desynchronized input must add a fair bit to the difficulty. Looks fun, though!
