Turn-based RPG Ash of Gods: Redemption is now out with day-1 Linux support

Quoting: CyrilI installed it and it runs pretty well for now on my PC. (I backed the game)
It's great to see a "Banner Saga like" with Linux Support. Sad that Stoic dropped the Linux release.
It's early to tell but I feel like I may end up liking this one more than I did TBS. For one thing, it doesn't have the repetitive "watch the caravan" cutscenes, and the combat is less bare-bones. I need to see more of the story, though, before I pass judgement.

Probably going to be my Soundtrack of the Year, at any rate.

The developer of 'Rise to Ruins' has shared some Linux sales and players data

But I still think we should be supporting the platform anyway, and it's not like it's that much extra work now a days to do it.

And, like I said before, if everyone supported Linux more people would switch over.
This is the kind of developer we need right now. People willing to work on making things available on Linux out of principle even though it's not an attractive market, making it easier for end users to switch to the OS, thus in time making it a more attractive market for those companies that will only be enticed by hard numbers. Kudos to him.

Tactical RPG Ash of Gods set to release in March

Quoting: melkemindI always get excited when I see "RPG" in the headline and then cringe when I see "rogue-like" in the article. :dizzy:
IIRC they said somewhere that what they meant by "roguelike" was mostly just that there are situations where the main characters can and will die if you're not careful. I don't know what the savegames will be like but it's really not... well, anything I would associate with roguelikes or roguelites. If you look at their main page, they call it rogue-like storytelling specifically:
You'll constantly need to weigh every dialogue choice, double-think every decision, and manage your limited resources - because your mistake might make any of the characters perish forever. But even your party leader’s death will not lead to “game over”!
I do remember them saying on Discord that they had many bad ends in store and only a few good ends that they don't expect most players to get to (at least at first). They mean the experience to be fairly brutal and unforgiving.

It does have random encounters while travelling, like g000h suggested, so replays should be interesting enough, plus obviously you can take different decisions during story events that will alter the course of it (and potentially kill off or disband some of your party).

Windows 10 S might alarm Valve into boosting SteamOS again

Quoting: qptain NemoYou actually can do everything you can on other platforms and have a pretty good time doing it.
You and I clearly don't have the same needs :)

Valve has boosted their Linux ranks by hiring another developer to work on open source graphics

Quoting: ZybersunSee the problem I have is way back Nvidia was the only good supporter for Linux. So I have always stayed with them, even through their stupidity. ATI, what it was called at the time, just sucked and forget about Intel graphics.
I'm in the same boat. Last time I upgraded my GPU, everyone said to use nVidia because it was the only thing getting proper drivers for gaming on Linux. I have no clue why everyone is complaining about them now since I haven't had any trouble with that card except for the occasional bug in driver updates, but I suppose it has to do with the newer cards' support?

Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem (previously Umbra) will not have a Linux version during alpha or beta

Man, this is some tasty trailer music. Does anyone know if that's in-house music for the game or licensed music?

As for the game itself, I keep forgetting that it exists although it originally caught my attention on Kickstarter. I decided not to back because they didn't have enough content to show at the time, I think. The eye candy is nice, but I'll wait for reviews, if and when they get it on Linux.

It's time to bug Feral Interactive about future port requests once again

I'm still going to keep my head in the clouds and request Horizon: Zero Dawn against all odds. As others have said, not too many native options for open world first-person RPGs currently, and my god does that game look gorgeous and immersive and have a great narrative. As a bonus, no one can say they already have a Windows license on Steam and don't need to buy it again :P

I see many people requesting Rise of the Tomb Raider; wasn't that one already confirmed on Feral's radar? If not, that's a good second/realistic choice.

Looks like a Linux beta of Battle Chasers: Nightwar is finally coming (update: it's here)

Nice, this will be a nice change of pace from my purchases of the past couple years if they can get it to run well and my specs can handle it :)

Realistic racing game 'DRAG' coming to Linux soon, built on Linux and it looks astonishing

Quoting: noxLooks very interesting, but the gifs are now constantly stopping to buffer (even after playing once). Something is weird with them. (tried in private mode too, same thing - maybe even slightly worse)
You need to click to play them now, or is this after you click? Works fine for me even on mobile.
After click. I'm okay with gifs buffering, but they don't seem to cache after buffering. It's strange, but if I'm the only one then we'll just blame something on my end :)
There's definitely a problem with the fancybox, but I wouldn't call it buffering though it looks like it. Pretty inconsistent behavior but for the most part it only happens with the first gif I load up, and it's fixed when I move to another thumbnail and back. It also plays smoothly if I click and drag the image in the carousel view (but only while I'm moving the mouse).

Quoting: meggermanWill there be other vehicles than the one buggy type
Also interested to know about this and what racing modes/environments are planned.

I don't do racing a lot, but like others above vehicle damage is something that helps get my attention and I still don't own a racing game that runs on Linux so this could be the first.
