Well that was fast but not unexpected.:O
I think this will turn out to be a great opportunity moving forward as Valve are unlikely to make the same mistake again in relying on a single distro. Whatever distro they decide to choose will be going onto my Acer Predator (AMD) laptop but I do hope (personal bias) they decide to support a rolling disro as its easier to get the latest GFX drivers/Kernels.
I have also not seen any mention of Valves VR efforts and how canonicals short sightedness could affect this initiative in the short term.
I do hope that the whole community bands together with Valve and create something special that will benefit all of us.
Think positive.:)

Here is the current breakdown of steam Linux users from the hardware survey.
Linux
0.84%
Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS 64 bit
0.20%
Linux 64 bit
0.08%
"Manjaro Linux" 64 bit
0.07%
Ubuntu 19.04 64 bit
0.07%
Linux Mint 19.1 Tessa 64 bit
0.06%
Doesn't really help with what to recommend to new users as these are all based on Ubuntu apart from Manjaro. About 50% of the total userbase must be using other distros.

What I am worried about primarily with this fiasco is new Linux users.
For now I am going to recommend Manjaro (rolling) and LMDE (LTS)
I think VALVE should create a desktop distro based on ARCH for a rolling release and/or one based on DEBIAN (LTS) to run alongside SteamOS
Just as Linux was reaching a tipping point we have had numerous hits to the face starting with EPIC games and its been downhill from there. I am beginning to think that Microsoft is involved here. Isn't it coincidental that as soon as Steamplay/Proton hits the ground running Canonical decide to drop 32bit breaking 80+% of software on Linux and also work with Microsoft to create WSL allowing Linux programs to run under Windows.
This not only cripples VALVE but Wine and Proton also.
Thoughts?

I am going to wait till the 16 core is announced and tested in the wild before making any moves.
I own a X370 Asus C6 Hero with 1800x and want to see if I will be better off buying the 12 core for my X370 or get an X570 board and get the 16 core chip when announced.
With all the issues that affected me when 1st gen ryzen first launched, I would rather wait and get it things right this time by waiting a few months for reviews and any potential hardware bugs to be fixed. I am also waiting to see if X570 has any benefits over X370.
I am really excited though and will be looking at the 12 core upwards.

Psyonix, creator of Rocket League is joining Epic Games (updated)

I am really beginning to hate EPIC Games with a passion.
I do own Rocket league but it's almost like they are targeting every game that is on my wish list. Games are increasingly failing to keep me engaged yet every game that I have really been looking forward to has been kidnapped by EPIC.
I am seriously considering just giving up on gaming completely as it appears that gamers are just not willing to stand up to these BS practices that are taking place. I feel this next step will ultimately kill PC gaming as we know it so we may as well get used to numerous platforms that are locked down with exclusive titles resulting in longer term strategy to provide streaming only services.
For now I will be closely watching to see what effect (if any) Proton and Google Stadia may have on the wider market to see if this may have any influence on EPIC going forward.
I hope I am wrong but I feel the future does not look bright.

Would love to test out this benchmark but unfortunately I have never been able to get it to run. Valley and Heaven benchmarks work though.
Nice to see the engine get fresh updates though and should I invest in VR I would like to test this out as I am waiting for valve to announce their Steam VR kit.

Just for anyone who is interested.
Finally managed to get Anno 2070 (steam version) working.
I had managed to finally pass product activation using proton 3.16.8 beta by using "PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command%" as the screen was black and was unable to enter key. Was still unable to launch the game.
Game now runs on proton 4.2 and the game downloaded all the patches and Uplay worked perfectly. Still need to disable the Uplay overlay or game will crash.
Still cannot run Anno 2205, Planetcoaster or JWE. These are the last on my non working/running list and would really like to see these working soon.
Big Thank you from me to all the teams involved for this great project.

This is good news from my prospective as this upgrade could now allow potential for running the bigger AAA games and thus offer a wider appeal. I am definitely more interested in this now and may pick one up on release subject to final specs of course.
I do hope that this VCS becomes successful.

Cities: Skylines turns four years old, has some impressive stats

Some impressive stats there so well done to Paradox/CO.
I am surprised the game is still selling strong despite now being 4 years old. As a huge city builder fan (I have put in over 500 hours) I have become bored of it to be honest as there are just too many issues with the game. I only tend to revisit the game now when a new DLC is released. I really did enjoy the industries DLC.
I do feel its now time for Paradox/CO to now think about creating a sequel (Cites Skylines 2) as the game has reached its limits and really could do with a total overhaul. Cities Skylines has been one of the best city builders to date for many reasons but its still missing that spark that the Sim city series had, An actual simulation with cause and effect.
I will continue to play the current version though as new content is released and I assume new content will be due to drop soon.
