Egosoft to launch X4: Foundations on November 30th, hopefully with a Linux beta build

Quoting: TheSyldatX games are long term investment not just for the players but also for the dev team.

Totally agree on that. X3 is how old at this point and is still being actively played and modded and still often is in the top 5 or 10 of most people's "Best Space Games" list...

This game and the similar, yet different, but altogether excellent Helium Rain coming out in the same year. I can hardly dream of a better time to be a space games fan on Linux.

Quoting: GuestToo bad the system requirements are pretty steep.... It requires a supercomputer to run. A Haswell quad core, 8gb ram, and an Nvidia GTX 970 (!!!!) as MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS.... Seriously? A freaking 970 is considered "minimum"? And to think it is Vulkan-only... Imagine if it was D3D11/OpenGL....

By the way for the people mentioning Star Citizen, Star Citizen is vaporware. It will never be released, and even if it will, it will be Garbage. The writing is on the wall... X4 just can't be worse than this...

Did you see that video?? After watching it, I'm hoping my laptop Nvidia 1070 doesn't choke on it. It looked amazing.

As an aside, this is a superb time for space game fans. We have new or upcoming versions of the following titles:

- X4
- Helium Rain

Plus, working on Proton/DXVK is:
- Landinar: Into the Void
- Between the Stars
- Solar Explorer: New Dawn
- Void Destroyer 2

In addition to the long list of native and Windows space titles that work in Wine/Proton/DVXK.

Quoting: JuliusCrashes on launch here on Solus Linux...

Edit: with native steam integration enabled it works... but then I need to figure out how to fix my controller with it :(
I had so many gaming hiccups with Solus, especially with Wine (plus some updates breaking my install) that I moved off Solus entirely. If you like Budgie, though, consider Ubuntu Budgie (what I run to game) or Manjaro Budgie...

So much potential. I like it a lot, but the moves don't feel as responsive as I'd hope. Something very similar like Jedi Academy, which is open source on Linux, feels far more tactile and tactical in its Swordplay than this. I also like, via Proton, Clone Drones in the Danger Zone...

I have zero problem with this at all. If it results in more playable, more reliable titles for Linux players, I'm fine with that. Even better, if word spreads among devs that this is a good approach, hopefully they'll bring over titles they wouldn't have otherwise. Look at Everspace. They almost dropped the Linux version because of platform specific development difficulties. Maybe in the future, such decisions won't need to exist...

FPS games Tannenberg and Verdun have some improved netcode in the latest update

I haven't had disconnect issues at all.

On an aside, I feel Tannenberg is really underrated in general and in Linux gaming as well. It has tremendous atmosphere and has really driven home for me the terror of trench warfare. It's now much easier for me to understand why there were such standoffs and lack of progress on the battlefield. There have also been some terrifying moments where I'm alone or nearly alone in a trench and I can hear enemy troops approaching or see them through the metal slats and I'll have, like, 2 of 6 bullets loaded. Do I take the time to reload (takes a while) and risk complete vulnerability? Do I try to take out the closest two advancing soldiers and run back and reload, knowingly sacrificing part of my trench? Do I wait for them all to enter the trench and try to stab them as they come through, having the element of surprise? Any game that makes me *feel* those choices is very solid in my book. And then there's the feeling of advancing on a trench thinking you've got it, and then 4 guys you didn't know were there stand up and there you are, really vulnerable running down a hayfield... Awesome...

Quoting: ElvanexHoly crap, thanks dude! =D That fixed it for my AMD card as well. I was just able to play for nearly 2 hours and didnt have a single crash! =D
You're welcome! I'm not sure why this hasn't been more broadly trumpted around their online community. I found this almost by accident in reference to problems with the same engine in a different title. I love Tannenberg so the more players we can get online and playing the better!

For those of you using updated NVIDIA drivers having problems, put "-force-glcore42 -force-clamped" in your launch options (without the quotes). That worked to prevent crashing while loading for me.

Quoting: lejimsterThey seem to be moving very fast with updates so far.
Absolutely, shockingly fast. I can think of 3 random titles off the top of my head (Star Wars: Battlefront 2, Star Wars: Empires at War, Clone Drone in the Danger Zone) that didn't work for me on a wide screen monitor on day 1 of the beta that, since, are now all flawless. Also, Void Destroyer 2, a space combat sim that was never coming to Linux that I never could get working on Wine, also "just works" on Proton. Very impressive...

Quoting: 14I never liked CS:GO that much. I only bought it about 2 years ago or so. I find Insurgency a lot more fun to play with my friends.
I concur on Insurgency as well, although isn't that game a few years newer? They had some time to learn from their elders before launching...
