With the Big Screen feature, the Deck could easily replace any Android TV set box... now if only Netflix et al. could be bothered to package their apps for linux... :D

I really think Valve should contract Mastercoms (https://github.com/mastercomfig) and let them improve the game; they were working on the leaked version of TF2, so I think they are probably quite familiar with the codebase... and it would be a dedicated (both in focus and spirit) to improve this beloved game :D
Unreal Engine 5 has officially launched, lots of Linux and Vulkan improvements

What really grinds my gears is that their EULA doesn't allow to redistribute the binary, so everyone has to build their own (bless the ue4docker project) editor every update, instead of maybe having it in an unofficial repo.
I wish they exposed their CI/CD so we can just download the artifact, cause they do have CI/CD on it, right? Right?
I know it's not fully Foss but you can see the code on github, in case you didn't know.

Quoting: Serious_TableSo, how about that pre-compiled binary for Unreal Engine 5 on Linux, Epic? No? Anything?
I'm glad they're continuing to support releasing UE5 games on Linux via exports, but the fact that a UE5 Linux editor is still an after-thought is extremely frustrating.

Quoting: PublicNuisanceNice to see Linux improvements but the one improvement I wanted was it released as FOSS which I knew wouldn't happen.

Gabe hand-delivers signed Steam Decks, sounds like a Steam Deck 2 is planned

I stand corrected, although I was refering mostly to laptops, at least non of the linux friendly laptop sellers have tb4 with AMD. Odd they didn't include it then...

Quoting: MasterSleortQuoting: minkiuA V2 with Thunderbolt 4+ (this one could have had it if Intel didn't have the TB4 exclusivity, albeit a bit more expensive) must happen, a decent handheld laptop with eGPUs support, it's a no-brainer.
Not true. For about a year it has been possible to buy AMD motherboards with Thunderbolt 4 support. At some point last year I was about to get an ASUS ProArt B550 CREATOR, which has two Thunderbolt 4 ports built in.

QuoteWhen asked about new Steam Deck models in future, Newell said "absolutely". Valve plans to ride the wave of new hardware, like newer and better AMD chips.

I like the game, and I enjoy it playing with my friends, although it has an overall aura of "something is off" in my opinion, and I got two bugs so far (haven't reported them yet...):
* No in-game voice chat (so can't hear or talk to randos)
* Sometimes the mouse seems to shift and to click menu I've to "aim" slight off (higher from what I actually want to click)
But even with that it's a pretty decent fast-paced shooter, jump in do some frags and quit, which sometimes is all you want (or can) do :D

Easy Anti-Cheat gets much simpler for Proton and Steam Deck

I have zero idea of the underlying infra of anti cheats, but I'd assume that while adding the "LD_LIBRARY_PATH" trick would indeed work, unless it's enabled on the back end (i.e: allow linux library to queries to even be considered) it would still return as "false"

Quoting: ArtenQuoting: elgatilMmm, I was wondering.. Step 2 is just placing a certain file in a certain dir so, couldn't proton take care of that? (And actually you could control which dir is it by changing the environment variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH) It would remove step 2 and 3 which are the most annoying I think.
Version of anticheat with game is compiled probably need match version of library. Don't know if there is way how proton can get version... and if some game stop updating anticheat, you need multiple libraries...
