Quoting: AkienNice! For those like me who can't seem able to add it to their library due to already owning Episode 1 - Paris after getting the similar free Winter holiday pack, here's a workaround:

Go to https://steamdb.info/app/439890/ [External Link] and click the "Free" button, and let it open the steam:// URI in your Steam client. That worked for me to add it as an owned DLC.

Now I should actually take time to play those two episodes and buy the rest from the Feral store :D
Thank you man! :D

Windows 10 S might alarm Valve into boosting SteamOS again

Quoting: GuestYawn. Propaganda. Windows 10 S is to compete against Chromebook. Simple as that. As the article notes, 10 S can be easily unlocked for free to 10 Home which functions as normal.

If MS (or Apple with it's Mac App Store for that matter) tried to lock down Windows to their store only, across the entire range, they'd be sued before they could say "antitrust".

The real interest with SteamOS from publishers, was Steam Machines. They were interested in a console market without the interference and high cost that you get on MS/Sony/Nintendo's console systems, and they initially thought porting the Windows version of titles would be "easy". They were put off by the nonavailability of the hardware, and relatively poor 3D performance.
Windows 10 S is almost outdated, MS is already planning the "Windows Core OS" that is supposed to replace x32_64 with UWP architecture and their Store would be the only place to get sofrware from.

It is on large companies to take a first step into providing Linux support (Ubisoft, EA, Blizzard, Valve) and the users will easily follow especially if linux gets some love by these corporations. The problem is though that they don't wish to invest too much but just take as much money from users as possible. I can also see these companies putting their games on UWP and give Microsoft a % rather than spending a lot of time and resources to port all the games to Linux and promote the platform.

Hopefully I'm wrong though.

Microsoft is rumoured to be looking to buy Valve, EA and others

Quoting: Cyba.Cowboy
Quoting: BlackBloodRumHow many people would stop using Linux once Microsoft removes Steam from it?
I don't think there's too many people that use Linux-based operating systems because of gaming... With the exception of Steam Machines and SteamOS users, people will just switch to other stores - GOG.com being the most obvious example, but there are a couple of others out there and some developers will sell to customers directly (i.e. via their own websites).

In other words, I'm pretty sure few - if any - people would stop using Linux-based operating systems, in the unlikely event Microsoft were to buy Valve Software...
Exactly my thoughts... there are other options for gaming like PS4 and Nintendo switch, gaming is a hobby anyway. Terrible samba support on Windows is the first reason why I couldn't use it full-time and there are many more, so I don't think that it would affect Linux marketshare a lot if any at all since hardcore gamers use Windows already, and people who use linux use it for a reason beyond gaming.

This looks beautiful, and as I've been able to see not complicated to use either, so we might see some great games produced with it in the future :D

Quoting: PhiladelphusMicrosoft wants to buy the money-printer that is Valve? Well, color me surprised! (Not!) :P

I'm sure Microsoft is pretty desperate to get Valve to stop funding improvements to gaming on Linux (not GamingOnLinux ;)), and they'd love to have access to the money fountain that is Steam, and I'm pretty sure they've felt this way for years now. But given that Valve already have the money-machine, I'm willing to bet that they're not short-sighted enough to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs for a one-time buyout. I'm not gonna be losing any sleep over this.
I won't lose any sleep over that either :P If by some miracle that happened I'd just buy a Console for AAA games and exclusives and keep playing on PC with Retro emulators and GOG... Wouldn't be the end of the world but I really can't see that actually coming.

Microsoft is pissing their pants because they plan to move everything to UWP and they are starting to realize that noone actually uses Windows for anything else but x86_64 legacy software and games. Also companies like EA, Ubisoft, Valve, Blizzard all have their own clients and would never agree to put things on MS's store, so we see a pretty obvious move from MS... their philosophy is everything can be done if we offer some money.

Let's just hope that companies are smart enough since MS ruined pretty much every company they've bought.

We can only hope that money won't be as appealing to Valve as freedom is, though we don't know what sums are in the game here... Valve is probably better and makes more money on their own anyway...

Quoting: KonA downward trend driven by China is still a downward trend. Yet another reason to improve input method integration in Linux desktops.

Buggy word processing in your native language is a non-starter for any computer system, even one distributed at no cost.
Let's be honest about something, Windows is also native-language only on the surface, when you start messing around with settings and registry everything is in English and that is the same for majority of operating systems, there's just no way any OS can rewrite everything from scratch in all the languages.

I find Linux to be completely compatible with my native language, not sure about Chinese.

This is amazing, apparently there's no "there are no customers on Linux, therefore we won't bring this game to Linux" excuse anymore. I really think we should support developers like this that are so open and honest about our platform! GJ guys! :)
