Slay the Spire adds a new daily challenge mode, like I need any more reasons to play it

Getting sooo tempted to buy this game. I'd normally buy on sale, but then... how long is that gonna be :/

I've got a bit of Humble wallet credit jangling away, ready to be used up. My resistance is fading...

Some thoughts on Man O' War: Corsair, rough sailing and very little fun

Slightly off-topic, the pirate game "Tempest" did have Linux betas available, but presumably because they broke the Linux Builds, the Linux betas are no longer available on Steam. The annoying thing is, I own the game and cannot play it - No Linux build available and even if it were available, probably non-working too.

Wish they'd hurry up and fix it.

I had a go with Sid Meier's Pirates Gold (steam, linux ~ dosbox) a few weeks ago. It was a pretty clunky experience for me. There were two emulator choices (Dosbox A, Dosbox B) and they both ran at bad frame-rates, but one was worse than the other.

Steampunk dungeon crawler 'Vaporum' is now officially available on GOG & Steam for Linux

This has been on my wish-list for a while. It sounds like it is a good quality release. Almost definitely I'll be getting this.

I've been a big fan of dungeon crawlers ever since Dungeon Master (played on Atari ST). Then I was blown away by Legend of Grimrock, a modern version of the classic game style.

There are a few others in the genre, also available for Linux. Fall of the Dungeon Guardians is pretty decent.

Tactical RPG Ash of Gods set to release in March

It looks very interesting, and I'll add to my wishlist. In this case I believe rogue-like suggests things like - Every play through is different; it is replayable (e.g. maybe you start and encounter completely different events along the way); there will be a randomness to it (e.g. you don't get the same set of cards, same items, on every play-through, so you have to adjust your strategies accordingly).

I suppose there are two things that annoys many people who don't appreciate rogue-likes - Randomness can be cruel (and force your play run to fail). But often it is just due to inadequate preparation by the player (I like game difficulty settings, which can be tuned to suit your play-style, as a way to balance this). The other thing - Not being able to store up multiple save games and continue from before where you died / failed to prepare. This second one doesn't bother me *if* each fresh run is sufficiently interesting and diverse from the previous run.

Liking the art style and much of what was teased out in the trailer.

Probably would adore it if replays are wonderfully diverse, as commented on already.

The Humble Classics Return Bundle is a really good deal for Linux gamers

Annoyingly I own all of those except Torment: ToN and Xenonauts. I think this deal will last until the next monthly subscription is active, so I might get the full pack (and $2 wallet credit) if I resume the subscription.

Agree that it is a fantastic bundle. I paid plenty for many of these titles, even on sale elsewhere.

Can you hear that? It's the Steam sales train and it's arrived, also Steam Wishlist revamp

Wondering what current Ark: Survival Evolved linux gamers think of it? I notice in the Steam sale it is at 67% discount, which is pretty decent. Tempted, but I have reservations due to issues with the Linux version, and not sure if the game play is decent or not. Any one want to comment?

THQ Nordic now own Koch Media GmbH

Well, let's say this - It probably will eventually mean (i.e. 1+ years from now) some changes in game releases. Those changes might or might not be positive for Linux.

Casting a slightly negative light on it - The bigger the publisher, generally the more focussed on Windows and Console games markets.

2D RTS 'Rusted Warfare' adds Steam Workshop support for maps and units, plus loads more

Picked it up fairly recently myself (1-2 months ago). As usual, too much to play, not enough time. Gave it an hour of play and pretty happy with my short test. Eventually I'll get back to it properly. Pleased to hear about the improvements.

Crazy shoot 'em up 'PAWARUMI' has officially launched
2 Feb 2018 at 5:47 pm UTC

Quoting: GuestUltraViolet : it's really not comparable actually. That's a completely different gameplay. I do prefer it a lot over Sky Force but some will prefer Sky Force. It looks like arcade games from the Dreamcast era (Ikaruga !) but has an original gameplay.

Contrary to Sky Force, which has many levels and hours of gameplay, PAWARUMI solely relies on the player's skill. In Sky Force you literally spend HOURS to gain stars to make your ship more powerful to be able to beat the levels and unlock stuff. (which is addictive but kinda irritating... and actually turns out to be repetitive despite the number of levels) In Pawarumi, there is no power up. The player has to learn how to combine the three weapons / use the colors system. So games sessions are shorter but intensive.

Well, just get it, it's worth it :-) Also the developers are Linux friendly.
As a player of Sky Force Reloaded (and Anniversary) and having completely maxxed out my ship(s), the game is still incredibly difficult (for me) to complete levels 13 and beyond, and also Insane mode on earlier levels.

My current status is... I have completely done levels 1-4 (Insane all stars) and 6. Then I have not beaten the Boss on level 13 yet (so can't progress beyond that). I've unlocked 3-4 ships (out of 8) and 5-6 technicians (out of 8).

So, I sort of disagree with you that you can keep on increasing your ship stats on Sky Force, in order to win. No you can't. It makes it easier but it is still VERY hard.
