Quoting: zimplex1This is quite different for Bohemia.Agreed. It's not what I think of when I hear Bohemia.

Thank you very much Liam for sharing my video, I appreciate it!
Nick from Feral has contacted me, and we may be getting Linux-specific fixes and possibly more soon. Anything can happen though, but I hope for the best.
I really appreciate them taking the performance and quality of their Linux ports seriously. Their support team is also very active in talking to me when I address bugs I've found with them.

Nvidia release Linux beta driver with Vulkan

Quoting: adolsonI took a leap of faith with Vulkan. I really believed they'd change their Linux support behaviour, given that they had knowledge of Mantle and Vulkan long before their competitors. With so much edge, I honestly thought they'd pull this one through. It is my mistake this time. There won't be a next time.Quoting: SabunNow I cannot trust them when they sayYou are only learning now that you can't trust AMD's promises? This is the reason I've only bought NVIDIA for as long as I can remember. This is nothing new, and I don't care what the AMD diehard believers say. They've proven themselves over and over and over again; exactly what they're proving, I have not fully decided, but it's either disdain for Linux or complete ineptitude.
Quoting: PeciskAccording to devs they never said AMDGPU supports only GCN 1.2/1.1. Vulkan support to be tied with AMDGPU was known for 2 months already. And first Vulkan driver will be binary, sitting on the top of AMDGPU.There was supposed to be a day-one proprietary driver for Linux, yet we have nothing right now. There is no excuse anymore.
AMD state they will support Vulkan on Linux in an upcoming amdgpu driver, not ready yet

We now have only Nvidia and Intel with Vulkan drivers for Linux. Guess what that means? Developers targeting our platforms will only test on those hardware. This time AMD itself is the one that has put itself outside of developers reach without a doubt. Several months down the line, everyone will be prepped for support for Nvidia and Intel on Linux, but not AMD. Time matters here.
This excuse about always giving AMD time is one that I've heard for the past eight years. No more.

Quoting: PeciskCan you AMD supporters cut the drama for once? When AMD gets criticized objectively for having performance issues, it's Nvidia who's guilty (and sometime it is, but not for everything). Now AMD is bad because they take their time with getting their own turf in order.I think you've got the wrong idea about my post. My sole issue right now is with AMD, not with Nvidia. With AMD not being here right now, despite saying they would have a day-one proprietary driver for Linux yet not delivering showcases they have not put any plans into motion with a proper deadline.
It's tiresome.

Right now, those of us with AMD cards have once again nothing but vague promises that something will come sometime in the future. That future driver may not even support pre-GCN 1.2 cards, which is very bad at this point. It feels like things are deteriorating rapidly right now.
First the Crimson driver let down, now this. I cannot hold onto my 390 with confidence anymore.

Quoting: NyamiouDid anyone saw their video featuring the Linux logo as big as Windows :If only a large image of the Linux logo was all it took to mean actual proper on-time Linux support. Sadly, that's not the case. Nvidia parades their technologies on Ubuntu when doing live conferences. Slapping a logo into a video can be done by any vendor.

I am severely disappointed. Vulkan is AMD's brainchild. They have no excuse to be behind this time.
It looks like they didn't even have a contingency plan (proprietary driver). Now I cannot trust them when they say they might be able to support 300 series cards and older with AMDGPU. Vulkan was supposed to be supported via their proprietary driver, yet here we are with nothing.
Why does it matter if AMDGPU supports more than just GCN 1.2? Vulkan support is tied to AMDGPU now apparently.

Maybe it's just me, but you'd think they'd have this working before SteamOS's debut. I'd figure it would have been a boon to say "Hey, look! We've made the Linux numbers go up!" on media sites.
It worries me a little, maybe their anticipation was that it wasn't going to improve the Linux adoption rate or that the numbers wouldn't look as good as hoped.

Still no ability to use Freesync on Linux, or record using VCE (or a multitude of other functionality really). Performance is the least of our woes. The slides once again showcase a lot of new hardware changes and purported functionality, which will only be usable on Linux if AMD allows the Linux driver that functionality. Otherwise it's no different than buying an older card.
Future buyers of AMD cards for Linux, please study before hand what is confirmed usable out of the specific card you want to buy and what is not on Linux at the time of buying. Do not blame Linux if it does not work, it is not Linux's fault.

Quoting: HadBabitsAw, you're too kind, really :P <3 And it was more like what I did in a couple days, between work and other engagements (and *cough* laziness) I got like 5% of what I wanted done. What was done was pretty simple, especially since Gdevelop has some presets for platforming physics; but I thank you for the kind words all the same :)Your criticism is very much appreciated! Indeed I should have kept things more linear, I felt it too after walking a while I didn't feel like a I had a goal even though I knew what the goal was! :D
And your game was certainly ambitious, as any 3D game done in a week sounds ambitious to this scrub, and I was also impressed with the amount of stuff you got done. If I were to put on my critique hat, however, I probably would've suggested a smaller more linear layout, like a tight corridor DOOM style shooter. After a bit I didn't see a point in venturing out for the crates surrounded by zombies to shoot said zombies; in other words, I didn't feel like I had a goal. Also the actual shooting isn't too satisfying as the zombies are pretty slow and non-threatening in an open area as well as being bullet sponges, though it does get a bit tense in the tree area.
All that said, great effort and I'll be following you to see how you future games progress :) And keep in mind this criticism comes from a lazy git who made half a level and watches too many game design videos XD

Quoting: CircuitSoftWell, it was a good concept, and I think given time, you can make a really good game building off of what you got. The only issues I found with your game were bugs and graphics, but they are completely understandable for the time frame we had.Thank you for the feedback! Initially I had more of a story-based idea where you venture through the island, interacting with nearly everything and getting back dialogue. Occasionally a pirate/navy attack event coming from the sea (which is why I had the AK in place, it wasn't meant to be the main thing). In the end having a melee chasing enemy was easiest to implement though.
Quoting: HadBabitsFor those interested in Unity and more narrative based games, I definitely recommend checking out Fungus; it's a free toolset for Unity that can be found on the asset store. It's got some really good utilities such as flow charts, dialogue systems, camera and sprite animation, and such that requires little programming knowledgeSweet, I didn't know about this. I just wanted to say, I'm impressed with your platformer. I've personally tried Gdevelop and I was surprised to see you be able to do so much within a week with it. Good job :)
