Linux Mint 20.3 'Una' gets a Beta release
14 Dec 2021 at 5:21 pm UTC

Quoting: CatKiller
With this release you're getting Kernel 5.4, a packaging base of Ubuntu 20.04
That seems really weird. Most Ubuntu 20.04 users are going to be on 5.11 already because of Hardware Enablement. If you're going to go through the effort to make a new downstream release based on that, why wouldn't you pick up the newer supported kernel from upstream?
Is it because during development they stick to one kernell for testing? In general updating kernell on linux mint does no harm to the system, but it might be done this way to avoid the final user unwanted surprises. Just a possible explanation. I'm not dev, just trying to guess why they are a bit late with kernel in general. On top of that Mint comes with so many packages, dependencies and libraries provided with the distribution that might also be a reason why they stick to a particular kernel.

GOG removes HITMAN after customer backlash over online features

It's better to apologize and aknowledge the issue rather than fainting or finding good excuses. It might have been complicated to change this bit of code. At least on steam, hitman 1 season remake uses hitman 2 season engine now, but back then the first version was done by another editor using a different engine. Lazyness? Maybe but still some extra work that is not supposed to be done by GOG but by IO. Hopefully they will come up with a solution.

Feral no longer porting A Total War Saga: TROY to Linux, citing less demand since Proton

Well, silver lining there: I think there's a good chance that a good Linux developer in Unity would have a broader impact making Unity generally make Linux games well and painlessly, than the same person in Feral helping to port one game at a time.
You are right for this positive thinking.

On the other end I really miss the good old feral day with the radar. As an adventure game fan, it was always a pleasure to see new enigma poping on the radar. An overall very well tought puzzle which was almost funnier than playing the port itself :p We used to discuss here what possibly could be the next port with lot of imagination and debate ^^

Feral no longer porting A Total War Saga: TROY to Linux, citing less demand since Proton

I always prefered Feral port to proton which is full of glitches and bugs. Feral port are always smooth with good sound implementation and 0 bug.

The problem is since the main member of feral left for Unity, there is only total war game, and I don't like total war series. I would buy every port if there was something to buy, but when it's not total war it's always those terrible tomb raider remakes (I bought a few of them despite I don't like).

The feral radar has nothing on it since two years.

I also quite liked doing theatre (I’m more qualified in that than comp sci/software engineering)
Wow! If you are better at theatre than programming, and by the look of what you can create out there, you must be playing way better than Georges Clooney :p

EVE Online getting a full browser-based version with EVE Anywhere, will work on Linux

It remind me of Quake Live. It was basically a free plugin for firefox and you could play quake with linux and mac support, until zenimax bought bethesda and id software, then they removed linux support, removed web browser plugin, then the game interface became annoying to use, then they created non sens weapons and easy strafe jump by default and then they abandonned the game. Which is basically everything they could to destroy the game and it's commnunity (which btw never dies).

Now that microsoft bought bethesda and id software like all the media say (but they dit not bought these studios, they bought this terrible zenimax and his horrible CEO because they are the same scamer breeds.) I can't believe these people are still not in jail, like ex zenimax ceo who scamed country from middle east and never went to jail because he is a friend of Donald Trump brother.

But I'm getting irrelevant to the topic ^^ Looking forward to try Eve again, especially on linux.
