Video Games Europe release a statement on Stop Killing Games

Quoting: tarmo888Gamers simply don't understand the complexities of game development, they only see - publish just one last patch.
Game development today is being strangled by a broken business model: selling a product as if it's a service.

In most civil codes, this kind of bait-and-switch would be illegal. You pay full price for a game, but you don't actually own it. The moment the servers go down, the game vanishes... No refunds, no rights.

What bothers me is that this petition only focuses on games. But this isn't just a gaming problem—it's a software problem. The entire SaaS (Software as a Service) model has become one of the most abusive, unregulated business practices since the days of Standard Oil or IG Farben. It strips consumers of ownership and locks everything behind recurring fees and corporate control. This is what "You will own nothing - and you will be happy" is, except nobody will be happy in the end.

This petition is a good step, but the bigger issue goes way beyond games. We need to start pushing back on the entire model.

System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is Steam Deck Verified and SteamOS Compatible ahead of release

In their testing Valve noted it does "not default to external Bluetooth/USB controllers" so you may need to manually swap in the Quick Access Menu.
Not a deal breaker per se, but it IS annoying if you are a couch Decker with a controller...

Tbh, I didn't expect that the Steam Deck verification process would go this far! That does make me very (or rather keep) me very hopeful for the future! :)

SteamOS Manager for BIOS updates, TDP and GPU clock controls now open source

This is super promising! I really hope SteamOS Manager eventually integrates SteamCMD natively. That would open the door to fully remote game management. Imagine being able to wake your Steam Deck with a magic packet, then SSH in or trigger an action from Home Assistant (or whatever) or the Steam app on your phone to start pre-downloading a game while you're still at work (yes, my internet is really slow). Walk through the door, pick up your Deck from the Dock, and it’s ready to go.

If 'EnterDownloadMode' is what I think it is (a low-power background download state with the screen off) then this is exactly what the community has been asking for. Combined with remote wake and some lightweight automation, the Steam Deck becomes an even more powerful hybrid between console and PC.

Sons Of The Forest adds FSR 2.0 and better settings for Steam Deck

I hope they will implement the proper controller button layout for the Steam Deck (and the DualShock and DualSense) while they are at it...

Does anybody know if the official dock relays the HDR and VRR signal over HDMI (or just DisplayPort)?

Linux on the Framework DIY Laptop has been very popular

Sorely tempted... but... I just bought two laptops - and - I'd really prefer an AMD option...
Same same. I wish they would also offer a 2-in-1 solution á la Surface Pro, with AMD hardware of course!

Maybe some day in the distant future... 🙄

The Frostbite engine apparently has partial Linux support but that doesn’t mean we’ll get ports anytime soon

Still better than nothing. Having EA onboard would definately help lift Linux popularity

Great news! I just wished they'd incorporate libSDL, libvpx, OpenGL in the engine so it doesn't need to be rewrapped after every iteration.
