Quoting: ThormackDoes it runs Elite Dangerous or we still need that unofficial Proton build?

Elite Dangerous runs under Wine/Proton? This is new to me.

Quoting: 1xokApex doesn't works anymore either. And that's what millions are playing right now. Doesn't want to know how many Linux gamers are among them who are now switching back to Windows.

Nevertheless, thanks to DXVK, we are a big step ahead today if you compare it with the sutuation a year ago.

Was Apex ever working? From my preliminary Googling I found that you could install Apex and start the main menu, but no other part of the game worked.

It worked great I think:

I was too late to test it. But many were enthusiastic and then very disappointed. There are many discussions on Reddit now:

New stable Steam client update is out opening the door a little wider for Steam Play on Linux

Wow, this was a huge update for the Linux client. Most of the changes affect Linux.

Sounds like a lot of changes are on the way for Valve's Artifact

I think this was been discussed long enough. Many people like card games. It doesn't matter that you (and me) don't.

Lol, it's not just you two, obviously LOTS of gamers would LOVE to see HL3, P3, L4D3, etc. You are definitely not alone, Valve is just being lazy, fat, and rich.
I love Artifact and I also like the other Valve games. Especially CSGO and Portal. For me, one doesn't exclude the other. Valve will deliver more. Probably in VR and probably not in the near future.

Valve's card game Artifact seems to be dying off and fairly quickly too

Quoting: sarmadIt would probably do better if it was sold as an actual physical board game. Why would anyone play a board game on a computer rather than a table?
Artifact is unplayable as a physical game. You play on three boards and you can quickly create over 100 cards. It's almost impossible to do it all by hand. A simplified version could be played. It's called Magic: The Gathering. :)

Quoting: psymin* Deckbuilding should be allowed w/o the game client (web interface maybe?)
There are numerous pages for deckbuilding. For example:

Quoting: slaapliedjemaybe I am the odd man out, but I just don't 'get' CCG games that are digital. It's not like you can actually collect anything, it's all 1s and 0s.
Playing is much more important to me than collecting. I don't know with whom I could play Magic at the moment, except with myself.

Best dying game ever made. :)

Artifact quickly became my favorite game. It even replaced CSGO. I have to go back a long way to the past to find a game that sucked me in so fast. Of course, many people on Reddit badmouth it (without really knowing it). That's because it doesn't conform to the norm. It's the first real online Magic where you can really buy single cards not only packs. There is no ingame currency.

I've now played 200h hours and spent about 60 euros on cards. Everything is very clear and transparent. No hidden costs. Meanwhile you only pay a fraction for the cards, because nobody wants them. People prefer to follow the predatory business model of Hearthstone and other rip-offs, because they are "free-to-play". People don't get the bill until they're already in the middle of the game. And then people are really asked to pay. Over and over again. And people obviously love being cheated like that.

Epic Games have confirmed a Linux version of their store is not on the roadmap

Quoting: Whitewolfe80Valve really does have Linux on lockdown doesnt it, look Lutris adding support for gog means i am more likely to pickup more games from gog. It would appear nobody is willing to bet on linux with the exception of Valve who are only investing in linux as a long term stratergy in case MS tries to lock down the next version of windows (well even more then now). I appear to be that guy that is actually concerned everyone else seem to be on the valve are the saviours of linux gaming. My biggest concern is valve looks at its balance sheet and goes well our investment is linux isnt panning out and gabe just going okay kill it.

Let's be real here. Valve doesn't support Linux because they believe that the year of the Linux desktop is coming. Nobody does that. Valve does this because of cloud-streaming gaming that someday in the far future will be a available alternative. Because if you run a big server farm you don't want use Windows licenses. Every major publisher will someday port their games to Linux but only for their own server farms. Valve will not stop supporting Linux infrastructure because they don't really care about Linux desktop end users. That we profit from it is just a really nice side effect and we provide test results + bug reports.

I've suspected the same thing for a long time. However, porting games to a render farm is certainly something other than supporting the Linux desktop. Officially, Valve supports Ubuntu and Kubuntu. Bug reports for Proton can be submitted for any distribution.

Valve does some things out of conviction, I think. Especially in the Linux environment. This is certainly also due to the fact that Valve gives people a lot of freedom and lets them work on things they really like.
