The recent Linux port teaser from Feral Interactive seems to be coming to Mac first now

For supporting Linux you have to buy a PlayStation and use Sonys Now.

One day Valve will have to react to streaming and they can only can do this on the basis of SteamOS.

Feral have to work economically. If they went bankrupt no one would benefit. Most of my Linux gaming time I have spent in Feral ports, except Minecraft ... ups, Microsoft.

I also love Liam's Linux bias. :)

What games do you want ported to Linux? Feral Interactive want to know again
12 Aug 2017 at 3:53 pm UTC

So far it seems Doom, Bioshock and The Witcher 3 are popular choices.
I would appreciate if we would not talk all the time about games that are out of the question or simply do not make sense. Doom, for example, runs under Wine better than any Feral port. Anyone who wants it has already bought it. Feral would not make money and Linux as a gaming platform would not be more attractive either.

The game that is most lacking is GTA V. Countless people do not switch to Linux because of GTA.

Personally I would like Elite: Dangerous for Linux. But actually not as a Port but directly from Frontier. So I bought a PlayStation 4 for the time being.

Dying Light's free 'Content Drop #0' is now out, Techland now have their own store

Quoting: GuestTheir store only sells keys for other stores (Steam, GOG), so it doesn’t seem very interesting. I was hoping to see Dying Light DRM-free for Linux there…
For people in Germany it is very helpful, because we can't access the Dying Light DLCs on steam. Even if we have the game already.

Some things developers might want to think about when bringing a game to Linux

Dear Developers,

The share of Linux users on Steam is still holding steady

I get the survey several times. During a year between 3 of 4 times I would say. In one case it came while I was using wine. The survey recognized this correctly. I think Vales survey is a clean thing.

For me it's a surprise that so many people do gaming under Linux. Only 2% of all desktops are Linux systems. Most of them are just for working or Linux is installed on old hardware which could otherwise not be used.

Linux will never be widely used on desktops. But Steam Machines will develop. In my opinion the selection of games is already better than for the PS4 or XBox. And running a Steam Machine is much easier than having a Windows-PC.

Unfortunately, this advantage is not reported. Instead, it is only ever complained that there are fewer games than for Windows.

It's so absurd when the press celebrates Nintendo for the release of Rocket League in December. The PS4 and XBox missing important games such as Civilization. Games where we spend hundreds of hours. But that is no problem for the gaming press. They would never criticize it.

But at some point people will notice what a cool concept Steam Machines are.

Currently not up to anything for health reasons, though as I said earlier I'm helping VP out with the Micro Machines release. Not sure what I'll be doing next, probably something involving electronics though.
Thank you! The icons are back. I preordered now.

They seems to have removed the SteamOS and Mac logo. Also there are only Windows recommendations left on the steam page. I just wanted to pre-order it, but now I'd rather not.

What do you think?

SteamOS has another new beta with a newer Kernel and updated Mesa
16 Jun 2017 at 1:21 am UTC

Thanks for the update to the update. :)

SteamOS will once be a success or it could already be. I think for Nintendo it would have been better to build a stationary console on the basis of SteamOS. There are so few Linux desktop users that Nintendo titles for SteamOS would also have been exclusive. Nintendo would have had a huge pool of games with SteamOS. They could have built their own system. The deciding parts like SDL have already switched to the zlib license by Valve.

With the Switch Nintendo has huge competition from the smartphones and tablets. There are hardly any games for the Switch. On the E3 Nintendo now celebrates Rocket League. It will be published at Christmas. You do not know whether to laugh or cry. How long is Rocket League now available for SteamOS?

I think that many people will be selling the switch in a year or two, because of the lack of games. That was already with the Wii U the problem.

Nintendo and Valve would have been a very strong team. Both have something that the other is missing. Nintendo has exclusive titles. SteamOS has the rest.

Looks like Dying Light is set to get more free DLC

You wrote Dying Light is for discount on Steam. But can't buy Dying Light in Germany directly on steam.

I would buy it. But while I'm not a big fan of zombie games only for discount.

This seems to be the only legal possibility for German players:

What is the normal price on steam? Sorry, can't see it.

Quoting: PixelPiThe Linux version runs pretty fine.
On your particular setup may be. It doesn't mean it runs fine in majority of other cases. If GOG rejected it for technical reasons, it means developers didn't want to fix some major game breaking bugs.
I think instead of steam GOG provides no defined runtime environment.

My setup is very common as you can see. I use an intel CPU and a GTX card. A gaming setup could hardly be more usual. I simply do not have your problems with the steam version. And while steam gives you a defined runtime environment, it should run on any any GTX/intel gaming system with steam. These system are the most common for Linux.
