Regarding why Gnome fits my work better. Well, I guess it is mostly that I like a very clean overview and prefer to concentrate on one thing. I'm the type of person that likes an actual clean desk ;) With Gnome I'm usually just seeing the stuff I'm working with, everything else stays completely out of the way, but, when needed, works fast and pretty. That said, I've created a few app launchers too, that process is indeed really cumbersome. Learning keyboard shortcuts is also a must for efficient working with Gnome imho.
Though as you said, to each its own, it's nice to have a lot of choices. I've used KDE for a few years, briefly tried XFCE, but concluded that currently Gnome fits me the most. I'm glad to hear that you found your preferred UI with XFCE.

Quoting: CyrilSorry, my question was more "Why are you surprised that Gnome is used by a lot of people?".Quoting: jensI just find it horrible, I much prefer XFCE. I don't really understand why thought, but that's fine there's a ton of DE, if someone likes it stick with it. When I have to help someone with Gnome 3 on his computer, just to not be able to create a proper shortcut/launcher blow my mind every time.Quoting: CyrilActually I'm a bit surprised to see a lot of people here using GNOME 3.May I ask why?
I find it so blurry, and I hate the kind of tablet's interface, with XFCE I have all functions I need/want right here.
In fact each time I see it, or try it I hate it. Maybe I fucking biased.
But maybe you could explain why you like Gnome 3 to have a better comprehension of your point of view.
And sorry to not be able to really explain why I hate it.

Quoting: GuestGNOME is awesome. Clearly the best DE. The only nasty thing is the default themes. It is..... functional, at best. Unless you are using a distro like Ubuntu with their own default themes, you need to definitely install some new gnome shell themes, gtk themes, icons, cursors ASAP.Yeah, same thoughts here ;). First thing I do is installing Plata (and before that Adapta) theme and Paper icons. After that Gnome works (and looks) beautiful for me.

Speculation: porting studio Feral Interactive could be in some trouble (updated: they're fine)

Quoting: JJNovaEven if I had said that, there is nothing bad about it. There are plenty of places I don't shop, or media I don't partake in, or events I avoid for one reason or another. I'm not supporting everything just so people don't lose their jobs. There is a difference between "not supporting because I don't like the taste" and "wishing to fail because it is not for my taste". Your earlier postings assumed the later.

Quoting: scaineI think you might still need to enable d9vk though? So in the Steam launch parameters, you add PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command%With Proton 5.0 you don't need that anymore, see https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/wiki/Changelog#50-1 [External Link]

I really think Phoronix should stay at summarizing commit messages. The Feral article has a bitter taste on in considering they gave Feral apparently very little time to respond in private first.
Anyway, on the bright side we do know now that Feral is shiny and kicking. Reading the responses to the articles they even got a few extra sales out of it ;)

When time permits, Hitman 2 and Assetto Corsa Competizione, both Steam Play. The later one is such a cool racer. Single player works perfectly after some tinkering for Media Foundation stuff. Online multiplayer works acceptable. The game stutters a bit when people join or leave a session. According to te ACC forum this happens on Windows too, but the effect seems (much) worse on Linux. Fortunately the actual races are mostly free of stuttering since usually nobody joins or leaves.

Quoting: Liam DaweAs a note, the developer I spoke to was for Deep Rock Galactic who've now said they're happy to be quoted on it. After this went live, I mentioned it to them and they have confirmed they can see the Linux sales.Really cool, thanks for the heads-up and ofc to Valve/Plagman for picking this up that fast.

Quoting: alexbrrsclntNow It would be valuable to check if the same Windows game dev could try to look again in his sales summary if the change was applied and now sees Liam's and other linux sales in his game.@Liam, could you please indeed raise that question to the developers you had contact with?

Quoting: Purple Library GuyYeah, that's more or less how I would call it too :(. I haven't bought that much for Proton, but I guess I'll put future purchases on hold until this is resolved.Quoting: Liam DaweA developer has now confirmed to me they see all show up as Windows, for a game even I personally purchased 100% on Linux for Proton. Waiting to see if they will allow being quoted.Son of a bitch. That's worse than it seemed.
