Seems interesting
I like to "waste" time in crafting games.
With 7D2D I twas a bit annoying to get certain resources/levels , so if this removes some of that grind I am cool with it.
My only gripe is the menus look a bit stock , like all the buttons need revamping to something more consistent.

First game was fun but a bit simplistic for any point and click veteran.
Will probably get it when it comes out though. Good for a lazy afternoon or two.

Democracy 3 seemed interesting but for some reason I never did get it.
Shame really , seemed like you could turn an economy around by legalizing and taxing drugs and you could also get assassinated by nuns for being pro choice.

The player count has been around 400 for years now, and it still is not dead. There even still is a competitive league.

But before you consider buying it, be careful. As Liam mentioned, the devs have practically stopped support for Linux. The libsndio is a thing you can fix by yourself. But at the moment the Steam overlay is not working, and although the devs know about this, they don't even list it under known issues.
