Windows drivers roll out for Steam Deck but Valve won't support it

b.) True, you need(ed) to install some drivers yourself also on Windows. But there is official support from the vendors, you can download a file and install it. This was not the case for linux. If something did not work out of the box you knew you are in for a ride. Either you found some guide to install the driver (which you might need to repeat every kernel update..) or: sorry no WiFi for you.

Quoting: asmoore82a.) I cannot recall saying thatQuoting: gabberInstalling Windows in 2022 on the Steamdeck is like installing Linux 10-15 years ago. Some parts work, some don't.Also, exactly like installing Windows 10-15 years ago. Like 2 or 3 comments above you just said most people have no idea how difficult it can be to do a clean install of Windows especially with a retail disc and not an OEM disc. Especially 15-20 years ago!

God of War is now on Steam and runs out of the box on Linux with Proton

1.) If you buy it on Steam, Valve gets a cut. And Valve is investing in open source software.
2.) AFAIK it will be registered as a Linux purchase
3.) Your steam friends on windows see you playing God of War, makes them think again about "you need windows for AAA-gaming"
Sure it would be great if Sony made a Linux version, but perfect is also the enemy of good.
I think waiting for pure linux ports is not helping:
1.) At some point valve will look at what the sales due to Proton were.
2.) The people around us will see us only play very few / niche games, cementing the "you need windows for AAA-gaming".

Quoting: WorMzyOh boy, another developer that can't be arsed to support Linux, but will still benefit financially from open source software picking up their slack. Whoopee. It's a bit more complicated than that:

2.) AFAIK it will be registered as a Linux purchase

Two years on, Stadia seems to have no direction left

Call me elitist all you want, but for me Gaming on Linux (GOL) is if it runs on my Linux rig. Heck, I would consider Android games on my Phone more GOL then Stadia.
I (and I guess many others) was hoping Stadia would be the push for Linux Gaming on the desktop, because in the backend they said to run Linux (Do we know if this is 100% the case?). Now we have games on Stadia with no Linux support outside of Stadia. Bummer.

Quoting: Liam DaweAs for the comment on it being Linux gaming: if you game, and it's on Linux, it's Linux gaming. I thought we settled this a long time ago, guess there's still many elitists lurking about. It's not gaming on linux, it's gaming on stadia because unlike on steam, your purchase won't be counting as a linux-sale. Capitalism is democracy where money is your vote.

Stallman is not what worries me, it's the outrage mob going after him.
"all you need to know" -> excactly the problem. One bit of info is enough, burn everything down.
And trust, the anti-Stallman mob is comprised of Microsoft, IBM and the likes of Coraline Ada Ehmke. Yea let's trust them, let's have a license which demands you agree with the political view of the programmer.
Quoting: scaineI'm not outraged, but Stallman, and hence the FSF, can definitely get in the bin. The fact that they took weeks to address something as simple as voting back in a confirmed abuser to their board shows me all I need to know about this organisation."confirmed abuser" - source?
Pretty incredible really. I don't trust them to represent my interests in free software at this point.
