Quoting: scaineI honestly thought Stadia was just a glorified Steam Link that worked over the internet? So while the box you buy might be Linux-based, I always assumed there would simply be a farm of PCs running Windows in a datacentre somewhere and you tapped into that resource to place your game.
You don't buy a box. About the only real plus for this over just buying games normally is, you can play it on pretty much anything with a screen (well, if your internet connection is fast enough). So the mention of Linux was always about the servers.

Cool ta. This is what threw me, from the article:

QuoteStadia is going to launch in November, with access being granted to around 14 countries. Currently, the only way to actually get in is to purchase the Founder's Edition with everyone else getting access next year. The Founder's Edition comes with a Chromecast Ultra, three months Stadia Plus, an exclusive Night Blue Stadia Controller and more. It's not cheap though, at around $129/£119.

I'm a bit clearer on this now. I wonder what excuses developers/publishers will dream up to release on Stadia, but not release on Linux directly...? Pfff. They'll think of something, no doubt.

It feels like an ecological nightmare to be honest. And the implications for bandwidth are horrific.

No support for this from me. I realise that I'm not their target demographic, but... nope. No interest.

Edit: Ecological piece seems pretty legit actually: [https://www.reddit.com/r/Stadia/comments/cjivzb/for_those_wondering_if_googles_stadia_will_impact]

Facepunch adjust their Linux plans for Rust, refunds being offered as it won't continue at all

You're conflating "incentives" with "paying". And while acknowledging that all incentives are inherently "discrimination" to a degree, we should be realistic: incentives are everywhere.

I quite like sub's idea that a developer who is committed to all three platforms earns a bigger cut from all three as a result. Positive reinforcement like this could be really beneficial, provided that devs aren't hurt by it. I wouldn't like to see a dev commit to Linux in order to score a 5% reduction across all three platforms, only to publicly deride "low Linux sales" in the face of increased "support costs", which we've already heard some patently false testimony on.

I doubt it'll happen though. Valve already feel pretty focused on Steam Play for this kind of engagement, which has its own set of positives and negatives.

I just checked - I got this in the "Best of 2016" Humble Bundle, in January 2017. I bought that bundle mainly for Victor Vran and Shadowrun, and I have only 2-3 hours in Rust in total. No interest in refunding the game at this late stage, for me.

I think I've owned this for over a year since the Itch.io release - this was the game that got me interested in playing Slay the Spire actually, and I even replayed a little CardHunter via Steam Play (since it's free anyway).

Great game, easily understood mechanics, perfectly pitched difficulty and now it even has a little bit of story to keep you playing. Love it, absolutely wonderful.

Quoting: MisterPaytwickThe game feels amazing on a Steam Pad, sure you mostly use the assisted piloting but it's really nice to play it that way.

Fun fact: I never use the assisted piloting. Unless you count occasionally using "x" to perform an auto-stop, which can be useful if you've taken damage on one of your thrusters and it's misaligned beyond your ability to jury-rig it back into operation.

The manual flight controls give an incredible feeling of agency in this game. I love it.

Really good to see this confirmed again - I've been looking forward to this.

I can definitely vouch for this - great atmosphere, awesome physics and fluid gameplay. It has a few quirks, but the speed at which the developer engages on Discord and changes the game is awesome and I'm really looking forward to playing the finished article. I've already spent hours just mining and upgrading my ship.

That's a relief. I used to check the upcoming pages quite frequently until it became apparent this abuse was more and more abundant.

Such a smooth and satisfying game, but felt a bit barren and sandboxy in its first release, so I only got a couple of hours out of.it before moving on.

Can't wait to give this another shot!
