A note on using Steam Play Proton and counting the sales for Linux (updated)
19 Feb 2020 at 9:56 pm UTC Likes: 1

I'm really pissed about this.

In January, I bought:
Noita (£11.19)

In 2019, I've bought:
The Witcher 3 (£10.49)
The Room series (£4.83)
Risk of Rain 2 (£8.19)
A Plague Tale: Innocent (£22.49)
Wolfenstein Two Pack (£19.99)
Fallout 4 (£9.99)
No Man's Sky (£19.99)
Deep Rock Galactic (£14.24)
Into The Breach (£6.99)

So, Windows only titles over 13 months = £112 on 13 titles
Meanwhile, my Linux purchases for the same period = £305 on 40 titles.

That's pretty significant - there's a LOT of Windows games in there that I wouldn't have bought if I'd know it wasn't giving developers visibility of Linux sales. This is pretty infuriating stuff, honestly. I feel ripped off.

As an aside, I think I probably spend waaaay too much money on games...

This just looks glorious and silly. I'm up for some of that!

Valve has banned tens of thousands of Dota 2 accounts as they tweak their smurf detection

Can't think of a single valid reason to create a smurf account that doesn't reflect poorly on the person doing it. So this is great news.

I ditched DOTA2 after about 5 hours because of the 'community'. I wish Valve the best of luck, but they have a steep hill to climb with that title. And I don't think CS:GO is much better...

Some games should only be played at LAN parties or in closed groups of close friends...

Proton 5.0 for Steam Play released - it's a huge update (updated)

Well, Mafia now runs. This wasn't working with Proton 4 for me, although I notice a few folk appear to have gotten it to work. I've only created a profile so far, haven't started the game proper, but the intro and rendered opening room work fine. Looking forward to giving this a go!

Quoting: LachuHi.
I have trouble with installing Proton 5. Proton 5 isn't visible in my flatpaked Steam installation. I go to library, select tools and only older Proton is present.
Just go into Steam Play in Settings - choose "Proton 5.0-1" from the drop down. It looks like the latest client doesn't have the concept of installing "tools" any more. You can still choose tools from your library, but I can't see a way to install them now.

Edit: Steam will restart when you do this and next game you launch will start the download of Proton 5 in your download manager.

February's Humble Choice is up with a new bunch of good looking games

Big pause from me. Only Eliza stood out for me, with possibly The Hex as a curiosity in second place. Pretty disappointing overall, especially for a Linux-only gamer, even with Steam Play.

Had to do the shocked Smilie to see that you meant D: OS2, which is Divinity: Original Sin 2, I think. :)

I know it's $2, but with my cynical hat on... that's 1m 40s of trailer that left me none-the-wiser about what this game is like. It's a point-n-click? Or maybe 3D? It's not giving off a huge 2D side-scroller vibe...

Meh. If a trailer doesn't give me any sense what I'll be doing in the game, I rarely care enough to dig deeper. That because (remember that I'm wearing my cynical hat) it's probably because gameplay looks bad.

Even with Liam's recommendation for Please, I think I'll give this a pass.

Well, the tulpa reference in the video definitely led me down a rabbit hole. Now I'm googling solipsism. What a fun way to spend a Friday...!

Quoting: GuestI regret i haven't thought of nominating The Eternal Castle in the best OST categories.
I haven't played/heard of this, but from the trailer on Steam [External Link], that's a magic shout... :(

Somewhat James Cameron'y with that heavy bass and futuristic riffing. I likey.
