Quoting: DesumImportant to keep in mind this is a 'look but don't touch' license.
While the license doesn't fit the open source or free software definitions it does allow modifications and hence ports(minus the assets).
I think the assets are available too actually? I'm basing that on the fact that Terry notes that you can use this to build the whole game and play it for free. But the license doesn't allow you do then slightly modify that new copy and sell it as your own work.

Terry described it as the "Doom" license though... so I'm a bit confused here. Pretty sure the Doom license didn't include assets!

Some of our most anticipated games for Linux in 2020

The only thing I'd add to this list is Stoneshard [External Link]. from the developers of Police Stories. As a big Tales of Maj'Eyal fan, this looks like it might be "the one".

In fact, and I don't know how I missed this, there's a prologue, which is free to play [External Link]! If I can tear myself away from Graveyard Keeper (which is unlikely), I'll give it a shot and report back!

Just in case anyone is interested, here's the ProtonDB ratings of the Windows-only titles:

Middle-earth: Shadow of War - Gold
Dirt Rally 2.0 + 3 DLC - Gold
Street Fighter 5 - Borked (such irony, considering it was meant to be native...)
Bad North: Jotunn Edition - Platinum
Trailmakers - Gold
Whispers of a Machine - Platinum
Mages of Mystralia - Gold (but only one report, over a year ago)
GRIP: Combat Racing + Artifex DLC - Gold

I think I'll go with it this month, since I don't have any of these games, and a couple of them look pretty sweet (Graveyard Keeper, Mages, Whisper).

Looks like a lovely mix of Mutant:Year Zero and Divinity! I'll be keeping an eye on this - cracking graphics, loving the art style, especially on the locations.

Deck-building rogue-lite RPG, A Long Way Down, entering Early Access this month

Quoting: g000hWill watch this one with interest (wishlisted).

Meanwhile, seeing as I'm very keen on this style of game (Picked up Slay the Spire on Early Access and loved it). I found another deck-builder rogue-lite called Fate Hunters [External Link] (currently on sale, 50% discount), which I recommend almost as highly as StS. I picked up Fate Hunters during the Steam Winter Sale, and it's been grabbing my attention (25 hours played thus far). Unlocked each of the playable characters in the game, but haven't yet managed to finish the challenge to unlock Hard Mode.

For me, if Slay the Spire warrants 9 / 10 score, then Fate Hunters warrants 8.5 / 10 score.
I'm 30 hours in with Fate Hunters and heartily second this recommendation. I'd put them both on a 9/10 personally. Only the 100+ hours I've spent in StS has dampened my enthusiasm for Fate Hunters, but it's a nice slow burn, and of the 30 hours played, I've only really played with the original character (although I've unlocked all five).

Great game, well worth picking up. The strategy options are immense and the atmosphere is excellent!

Quoting: scaineChasm, btw? Absolute excellent! Like Hollow Knight with pixel graphics, only better gameplay (no constantly working back to your shattered shell) and faster progression (I still have a few abilities to collect though) and less weird characters/atmosphere. It also features different weapon types and the enemies are generally less frustrating to deal with.

I realise that sounds like I'm shitting on Hollow Knight, but I really enjoyed the game, but couldn't get past its frustrating failures.

Chasm is really superb.
Thanks for the perspective. I didn't find Hollow Knight frustrating (just hard).

I am wary of the procedural generation in Chasm. It rarely works well - although Sundered nailed it, much to my surprise. It always seems to be an excuse to avoid hand-crafting levels. Does Chasm tie it well enough to the story?
I had no idea this game used procgen! Does it procgen the maps?? If so, there must be many elements of "fixed" map layout, since all the puzzle elements feel hand-crafted. The game is much easier than Hollow Knight, but still challenging. Actually, "easier" might not be the right term. It's more what I outline above - progress is more obvious, there's a levelling mechanism that makes earlier areas easier to visit and it's much clearer when am area is blocked off because you haven't unlocked an ability.

There doesn't seem to be any context for this, but hopefully the Rückert brothers are about to launch a new game and this is a nice piece of publicity for them? Cracking looking game though, so it's an amazing gesture regardless!

Horde mode sounds right up my street. I prefer co-op online play like Killing Floor (definitely not family-friendly) or Insurgency co-op (also not FF). Might pick this up in the New Year.
