So they implemented epic, gog and amazon support without using any code from GPL projects like legendary, heroic-gogdl or nile, in less than a year, with a team of two where only one is a coder. Impressive!
As long as they're making use of pre-compiled and unmodified binaries then GPL doesn't effect them. GPL only comes into effect if your using them as a library or modifying the source code.

yes, it feels cheap in many ways which is unfortunate. It does work very well though, and is basically the second best option after the DaulSense Edge for gyro aiming given the cap sticks and paddle
For me it feels too cheap and is just designed badly. A couple of things that completely destroy my ability to use it (in addition to it's general cheapness):

  • Face buttons are all at different heights. This I might be able to overlook if the rest of the package was good, but it's just awkward.

  • The "analog" triggers have VERY little travel AND a tactile bump. This means they are completely useless as analog input.

  • My analog sticks have inconsistent tensions. My right stick has noticeably more tension when pushed down then when it's pushed up, and my left stick has more tension to the left.

I got mine the other day and it's pretty cheap garbage in my opinion. Has build quality of a sub $20 controller. Pretty disappointed; guess I'll have to wait until the Stream Controller 2.

What isn't enforceable? The only things they're enforcing is release date and promised content, both of which are very easily enforceable.

Every single screen on earth is a horizontally wide screen. So gnome puts a gigantic bar across the entire top of the wide screen, which is like 95% unused empty space. For what reason? And then puts ANOTHER horizontal bar across the bottom with apps on it with HUMONGOUSLY GIGANTIC icons for .... reasons?

So they squish the usable space vertically FAR more than it needs to be. And without using hacks / extensions you can't configure it to a single panel on the left or right or top or bottom (but I admit I haven't used it in a long time so not sure if recent updates have changed it).
On vanilla Gnome, you only have a slim top bar; the bottom app bar is an extension (I don't use and don't like personally) that a lot of distros have installed and enabled by default.

There were rumors that Valve was working on a new game. Everybody was hoping it was Half-Life 3, but apparently it was this instead.
Deadlock has been known/rumoured about for a while; Valve seems to be working on a different game that people the theorizing is HL3.

I'm positive they will have to start all over from scratch. MS still owns the IPs. I think a fresh start is a good thing anyways.
Yeah, from what's been mentioned so far, the only IP they are keeping is Hi-Fi Rush, so any of their other IPs they'd probably have to partner with Microsoft to release.

At least for me, my negative view of Canonical in recent years largely stems from how they handled Snap. The main reason I completely dropped Ubuntu (and stopped recommending it) was that they started to use Snap for pre-installed apps. I've heard that Snaps aren't too bad today, but back when they decided to force it on everyone they were slow and didn't theme correctly (at least for GTK). That's not to mention that basically every other distro has chosen Flatpak for sandboxed apps, but Canonical has forbid any official flavors to have it pre-installed.

It boils down to their three main issues that they claim:

1. Price parity obligation clauses: We say that Valve Corporation imposes price parity clauses that restrict and prevent game developers from offering better prices on PC-games on rival platforms, limiting consumer choice and harming competition.
2. Tying: We say that the restrictions Valve Corporation imposes, that mean the add-on content for games must also be purchased from Steam, restricts competition in the market.
3. Excessive pricing: We argue that Valve Corporation has imposed an excessive commission, of up to 30%, charged to publishers, that resulted in inflated prices on its Steam platform.
1) This is bad if true. I believe there hasn't been any proof of Valve actually doing this and they have expressly denied doing it.

2) Steam already allows you to get premium currencies off platform. I doubt there's a stipulation on other DLCs, but if you're already on Steam it really doesn't make sense to put in a bunch work to allow for off-platform DLCs.

3) Games are not cheaper on EGS. I don't think it's a bad things for small developers to get more money, but trying to frame this as a charge to consumers is laughable.
