Quoting: CoolHandYou mean, every single turn-based strategy game with squads of space marines vs. aliens in a space ship... Yeah, sounds about right to me. The Space Hulk board game was the first time I saw that concept, and all this other stuff seems like derivative works. This seems too much like the original for me to be able to enjoy. Just like the Iron Tower trilogy was too much a ripoff of the the Lord of the Rings for me to enjoy. But to each his own..Premise vs execution. J. Michael Straczynski:
Consider this sequence: male meets female; they fall in love; they struggle to overcome forces against them; male dies nobly. Is this "King Kong" or "Romeo and Juliet"? The answer for both: yes. How you handle the details is up to you.

Finally!
XCOM:EU is one of the few games I managed to just lose myself in for weeks. I played through in normal difficulty and then twice in a row in hardcore Classic mode. I've been holding off on buying the Enemy Within expansion till the Linux port was ready.

Quoting: scaineThe game might be "Early Access" but there have been playable versions for sale long before it hit Steam.Quoting: rustybroomhandleReally? That seems a bit of a stretch. Steam puts "Steam Marines" at September 2013 and it's still Early Access. Meanwhile Bionic Dues is one month later, October 2013, full release.Quoting: scaineMore like a Bionic Dues clone. Looks good though. The video has made me want to sink more hours into Bionic Dues right enough...Except this pre-dates Bionic Dues by a long way and you'll be happy to know they are nothing alike.
Unless you know of development that happened before their Steam launch of course, of have some kind of insider developer knowledge?

Quoting: CoolHandSeems like a "Space Hulk" ripoff to me... As we already have Space Hulk on Linux/SteamOS, can't see myself getting this..Are you prepared to accuse every single turn-based strategy game with squads of being Space Hulk ripoffs? Is X-Com also a Space Hulk ripoff? Because that's basically how daft that comment is. In my opinion we need more of these types of games, there aren't nearly enough.

Two things:
1. If a user buys this, making their entire Windows catalogue available to them, why would they want to switch to another OS with a fraction of the available content?
2. How is Microsoft allowing this, seeing as it runs their OS and will be eating away chunks of their XBox profits? They get money for the OS license, that's it.

Legions Of Ashworld Released For Linux

Been waiting for this release. The game takes heavy inspiration from the late Mike Singleton's Lords of Midnight, which is by far the most "Tolkien" game ever made, even though it's set in its own world. I got the LoM remake on Android not so long ago, but this is a more updated take on the formula.

Quoting: MayeulCWell, I tried to register on this website to post a comment on this (mostly the `uname -m` thing, plus export LC_ALL=C which often causes problems in unity games. But I don't understand the verification question :goat

Quoting: DrMcCoyThere's quite a few mistakes in there.Good tips. A thing to note that I learned recently is that when publishing to Steam, Steam will a+x dang near every file in the install directory. I am guessing it's for people who want to store their SteamApps in a shared location, but still doesn't make sense for most file types.
2) chmod 777 is very bad. chmod 700 should suffice
4) Don't use getconf LONG_BIT (that will also output 64 on a lot of non-x86 architectures). Use uname -m
6) "en" is not really a valid locale. A valid locale consists of a language, a region and an encoding. For example: "en_US.UTF-8". Just "en" might work, but it might not

Quoting: GuestParadox… So it will be another complicated and expensive game without a demo and with a thousand DLCs, I suppose. Great.Warlock 2 is much like the first one, not very "complicated" as far as strategy games go and definitely a lot less so than Paradox grand strategy titles.

Ok, ran terribly for me, but got it smooth now (Arch/NVidia). Here's what I did:
1) Selected Ultra settings
2) Show advanced
3) Disable ubersampling
4) Disable anti-aliasing
5) Disable v-sync
Looks good, runs well.
