I happen to like the skin tones and bright hair.

Not sure what updated that did the trick, but FYI No Man's Sky's experimental Vulkan branch now works well with Nvidia hardware.

Maybe we have it wrong and "PC" actually stands for "Pretty Crap".

Steam Play/Proton. Love it or hate it, it does need to exist.
A few years ago Valve tried to make Linux mainstream by launching their Steam Machines consoles. This failed. Aside from some other rookie mistakes made by Valve, they also had trouble getting game studios on board with this. The consoles launched, and as soon as buyers realised how small the game selection was compared to Windows, a lot of people who bought them just said bugger it and installed Windows.
In principle, Steam Machines is a great way to mainstream Linux as a gaming platform, but the execution sucked. And if (nay, when) Valve decide to do a round 2, they will not have the same issue again, thanks to Proton. They just have to not make all their other rookie mistakes again.

An aside. Loosely related. We've been waiting quite long for Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Said game has now shown up on the Stadia launch titles list. I'll be over here with my tin foil hat on.

You're still confused. :)
The three games that are sold on Steam as "Bard's Tale Trilogy" are not emulated... they are completely built from the ground up remakes of the three from the 80s. The trilogy that comes with the goofy comedy Bard's Tale are just as you say, the originals with an emulator.

So this is about the original 80s stuff? I didn't even know those existed. :D Then it's even weirder because that should all be dosbox/emulator stuff.
They were remastered/recreated with fancy new graphics and sound.
The thing is. It's available in the Humble Trove where it's listed including the trilogy. But apparently the Linux build only contains the 3D version and exits when you try to select one of the older games.
Edit:
Downloaded the Windows version. The originals are just zips (password protected :| ) with Apple IIGS disk images and what looks like the KEGS emulator. Which is available for all OSes.

This is nice as a tech demo and great as a source reference for developers, but compared to the original, this looks uuuuugly. It's so bright and all the atmosphere has been lost.
Dying Light is still seeing updates years after release and my love of it continues

You can do either, I believe. Like you can make a fresh character and go straight to The Following, but the content miiiight be a bit tough for a low level player.

Quoting: g000hA little question for those who have played through the whole thing: I have finished the main campaign in the main game, but have never even looked at The Following. If I start The Following, does it begin you as a brand new player (with no skills, no equipment) and you play it from scratch, or does it just follow on from your main game with same skills / equipment stocked up?
I think I'd prefer it if it was a completely separate entity where you have to build up again, and you can play it completely separately from the main game. Can anyone let me know, thanks?
[Meanwhile, I did play the main game on an older system than the one I have now, and I feel that performance is fine on the native Linux without needing to resort to Proton. In fact, I'd only like to resort to Proton if the game being played is really bad on native.]
