The war of the PC stores is getting ugly, as Metro Exodus becomes a timed Epic Store exclusive

Frankly, I don't think Epic wants to better the situation, they just want to be the ones benefiting instead of Valve.

I said it before: I think exclusivity is fundamentally bad. That goes for availability and stores just as it goes for platforms, operating systems and architectures. What we need is radical portability and availability.

Heh, I'm starting my christmas vacation in...*checks watch* one hour, so I guess that's what I'm going to play soon

Waiting for all the DLCs to come out seems to have worked well for me this time around

Now someone "only" needs to migrate that code over to use OpenCL instead of CUDA, leading to a fully portable physics system.

Obsidian Entertainment and inXile Entertainment have officially joined Microsoft

(To be fair, Obsidian did join the development of Wasteland 2. They both worked on it. Both studios have a friendly relationship with each other.)

And yes, I really loved Torment: Tides of Numenera. And Wasteland 2. And Pillars of Eternity (still waiting for all the DLC to drop so I can start the sequel). I'm just really sad now.

oldrocker99Obsidian was snappy after their Kickstarter funding; Wasteland 2, and PoE were released in 2014 and 2015, respectively.

Wasteland 2 was inXile.

...Could people please stop with that "have joined" euphemism? It's bullcrap. They've been bought. It's bad enough that the company that's been bought has to write that in their press release, to make the buyer not look like a monster. But that everyone then copies that shit, that's just infuriating.

On-topic, I'm just disappointed. I guess that's the punishment for me saying that I'm ready for thousands more games like Pillars of Eternity and Torment: Tides of Numenera. Now they'll exist, but won't run on Linux. Haha, how ironic.

DelicieuxzWhat you're arguing for, that a license can be enforceably terminated for modifying a personal instance of a GPL software

As soon as you distribute the software, binary or source, in any form, commercially or non-commercially, the GPL applies to you. In the case of the AGPL, providing an online service also counts as distributing the software.

As long as the modified software doesn't leave your own personal hardware, no foul. If you give it to a friend, bam, the GPL applies. You upload the source to Github, blam, the GPL applies.

And if you violate the GPL, the license is forfeit, and you can't use the software at all anymore. (The details here, exactly when that happens and when you're in good standing again, differs between the GPLv2 and GPLv3.)

[Disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer, and this is not legal advice.]

...Also, how the heck did a discussion about licenses start here in the article comments? O_o
