GOG's Installer Encryption Proving to be Difficult for Linux Users

Quoting: neffoThis all seems like a confected outrage. This isn't DRM. And by all accounts it's a trivial matter to bypass ... it just seems like a bizarre change, yes, but the response is completely overblown (like every linux gaming issue).
You do realize that under my country's insane copyright laws bypassing this could be considered just as illegal as pirating the content itself?

Quoting: Copyright Modernization ActBill C-11 prohibits the circumvention of any access control installed on a work, performer’s performance fixed in a sound recording or a sound recording, even if the work subject to the digital lock is legally acquired.
That alone makes this a very serious issue that GOG is going to have back away from.

I submitted both Mark of the Ninja and Bastion, since those are probably the two games I got the most enjoyment out of this year.

Quoting: GuestI know I sound like RMS but it's true.
Well, when you are advocating a position, is it really a problem when you end up sounding like one of its chief advocates?

Quoting: strel0ckMost Windows and Mac users don't generally have compilers installed on their system
Many Linux distributions also unfortunately do not supply them by default, as is evident by the guide linked to in the article.

Quoting: strel0ckbinaries are easily portable on those systems due to there not being a bunch of distros that put libraries in different places.
Binaries are not that hard to ship and make portable on Linux either. Still, I would agree that for a beta release the effort involved is really not needed.

You'll have to build the game from source because this is a beta release. Alternatively, you can download pre-built binaries for Windows and Mac.
Because Windows and Mac users are too scared to use git...

Anyway, if any Arch users wants to try it out they can simplify it with this:

No, Final Fantasy XIII-2 Probably Isn't Coming To Linux
17 Dec 2014 at 5:46 pm UTC

As I said, I do not really know anything about these games, so I probably do not have the right to comment, but as a title I still think appending a number to another number seems quite lazy. I can also say that, to the uninitiated, all this talk about X being better than Y, or Y being the greatest game ever while X was the worst thing to ever come out, all comes across as rather amusing.

If the games really are all different from each other, it does make one wonder why they need to share the same kind of branding at all, other than for reasons of marketing convenience. Not to mention the fact that any game series with the word "Final" in its title that still manages to reach the number thirteen does need to be questioned, even if only just a little...

I know I am probably just shooting my mouth off here, but this really does just seem like another mainstream treadmill to me like Call of Duty.

I know next to nothing about Final Fantasy, but I will just say that appending a 2 in front of a 13 is probably the laziest game title I have ever seen.
