But none of this is strictly on topic anyway.

Quoting: Quote from twinsonianSteam DRM? This topic has been beaten to death all over the internetYes, it has.
Quoting: Quote from twinsonianYour statement should read "Most personally don't give a shit about trying to get their games running on linux when they can easily play their games on windows."My statement was a parody. I do not actually agree with it.
Quoting: Quote from twinsonianMe personally? I would rather have the headache of getting my games running on Linux because I do not like the idea of being forced to do anything from M$.And I would rather go through a few extra hoops to get my games because I do not like the idea of being forced to do anything by Valve.
Quoting: Quote from twinsonianI will gladly take their so called DRM for the opportunity to play my games on the distributions that I love using. Otherwise we will only ever be enjoying games like wesnoth on our linux installs. So what the hell have I been playing for the past five years if we did not have any games before Steam?

SteamOS Gains An AMD Preview Graphics Driver

NOUVEAU IS NOT BETTER THAN RADEON IN TERMS OF PERFORMANCE! NOT EVEN CLOSE!
R600g now has full power management, support for VDPAU and HDMI, improving 3D performance and OpenGL compliance, and broad support for most compliant graphics cards in-kernel. RadeonSI is also nearing a state comparable to R600g, which should hopefully speed up the process of supporting new hardware in the future, while R300g already has been pushed to a such a state that it would be difficult to improve upon. Nouveau can not boast anywhere near that broad range of features and support, despite years of hard work in the dark while Nvidia looked on.
Furthermore, while Nvidia's recent moves are laudable and may help change things, AMD has been supporting the development of the free radeon drivers since 2007, and not just by releasing documentation, but by also hiring dedicated graphics engineers to work on the drivers in order to ensure proper hardware enablement and to help spearhead the development of new features.
The only vendor that can claim better support for the their free software drivers is Intel's OSTC. Saying anything else is just pure FUD.

Quoting: Quote from philip550cWasn't trying to say you should buy anything. Was more directing it to the other guy. Either way I do enjoy a lot of the games and many of them I thought were going to be bad but ended up being in my favorite games list, like Hotline Miami. When theres a game I don't want I give it to a friend with poor health that cant afford games. He is happy when he cant get out of bed but can be entertained with a new game.Fair enough, and I did know that was not exactly directed at me. The last part of my post was also meant as a more general comment.

If you are going to try and moralize me because of that, I simply have to ask why you need the pretext of a bundle to justify your own donation in the first place? Why not give them money all the time? Do I have the right to judge you because you don't?
I also wanted to point out that each individual promotion has gotten less and less important due to greater general availability of these games on the Humble Store and through the Humble Widget - something I clearly pointed out as being a good thing.
When they play the pragmatism card, as they have for the past year, I am free to follow suit with a play of my own.
Honestly, to carry on this tract would be to say that none of you have ever spent money on a Linux game worth playing, which really would be giving all our developer friends a huge disservice.

Quoting: Quote from amishffs Hamish, Donate all the money to the EFF!!I would rather spend my money on a new pair of glasses. That I need. No offence to the EFF, but I do not have deep enough pockets to buy a bunch of games that I probably will not play just to give them a paltry few bucks.

Quoting: Quote from amishWhy you must be constantly bitching about every single the Humble bundle that comes out?! humble Bundle is still the best thing there is out there.I think you will find that I did not even comment on the last bundle. I did on this one because people were exited about it, and I wanted someone to try and explain to me why they were to see if it would change my own personal opinion about whether it was worth my investment or not.

Quoting: Quote from amishyou really dissapoint me. I mean, does anyone buy Humble bundles because of the actual games? not me anyway. :)I disappoint you because I actually want to buy games I want to play? Because I still appreciate gaming as something other than a cash sink?
Quoting: Quote from amishActually, thinking about it more... all games are boring crap to me. I only buy them and read the things around gaming, probably because of nostalgy and because of the great potential to expand human awareness that games as such have... That I believe will be seen in the future. Nevertheless, i consider 99% games are boring crap. The other 1% I consider boring after few hours anyway. Even the new indie games, even though I'm a big fan of indie games, honestly they suck balls. One worse than the other. The games are horrible, just look at Steam greenlight - who wants to play such (indie) games? Not even mentioning FPS's like "modern warfare" etc...Now that is just plain inflammatory.
Quoting: Quote from amishBut Humble Bundle is still great because of the ideology. Hamish, what else do you want? show me ANYTHING better out there (ideologically) than Humble Bundle!I used to be more willing to buy games from Humble that I was not interested in because I believed that they were trying to make a difference - but when they narrowed their scope, I narrowed mine, to the point that I now only buy them to receive games I want to play.
When they play the pragmatism card, as they have for the past year, I am free to follow suit with a play of my own.
Quoting: Quote from philip550cI pretty much buy games just to see the linux platform grow and because I thought that by switching to linux years ago that I would never play games again and now Im suprised by the amount we have. That is nice, but not everyone has that much to spend. I do need to receive some value to justify my input.
Honestly, to carry on this tract would be to say that none of you have ever spent money on a Linux game worth playing, which really would be giving all our developer friends a huge disservice.

For some reason none of these tickle my fancy to any great degree; not a slight against the games themselves, but unless someone can clarify one to me to the point of building an interest I might just skip over this one, unless some of the later games added look more appealing to my own particular taste.
In general I have been skipping more and more Humble Bundle promotions lately, since I no longer feel obligated to support them for ideological reasons and because if I do eventually decide I want one of the games featured I have a far greater chance of being able to pick it up after the fact than I used to thanks to the Humble Widget and Humble Store.
Don't let me spoil your fun though.

Crowdfunding & Early Access Are Not Ruining PC Gaming

Let us keep in mind that Linux and most of the free software ecosystem itself can be described as being developed through crowdsourcing and by using early access. We are used to the paradigm and have learned how to best take advantage of it. To the uninitiated it would be something of a culture shock, and when they hit their first bump in the road on this new system they would be very much tempted to bump back.
That does not make their response valid, however. As Liam points out in the article.
