Another Steam Client Beta is out, adds the ability to force Steam Play

Let me understand this. This update should make games like Ark with a bad Linux port to work better. I think is good and bad. Dev can become lazy but Linux user don't feel like they need to install windows or go with a wine steam to play the game that their friends play.

Darwin Project no longer works in Steam Play, due to Easy Anti-Cheat

It sucks but I can't blame the dev fully. Proton is a great savior for games that don't get updated or don't have heavy DRM.

There's a brand new Steam Play Beta version out with FAudio, also a Steam Play whitelist update

Valve have some serious competition, with the Epic Games Store being announced

I don't see Epic as a serious competition at this time. Due to people would have to give up a DRM store to a new DRM store. Even if dev world gets more % back for their games. The hard part Epic needs to overcome is getting people that are just only playing Fornite to spend money other then Fornite to play some game most likely people have it on steam. Other then that I do think Valve should lower they're cut little more for all dev, not the new thing that's valve is doing.

As for myself I don't see cloud gaming going take off so well. People internet not up to code or so many with a limit cap does not make cloud gaming to much a go as right now.

What are your hopes for SteamOS/Steam Machines in 2018?
I hope Steam Machines will get released, because for me they are still in Alpha, even if Valve said something different.

I said it multiple times, but without interesting bundles in each market, Steam Machines won't interest single person. Why would someone buy Alienware Steam Machine with Payday 2 for $400 (or $749 :D) if there is a cheaper PS4 with any newest title in the store?

Valve did very bad with Steam Machines:
- they did not produce hardware,
- they allowed manufacturers to decide not to ship machines they promised,
- they did multiple false advertising for Steam OS (Witcher 3, Street Fighter V, Evolve),
- they did no advertising of Steam Machines,
- they released only overpriced machines,
- they decided not to invest money in Steam Machines, because Microsoft seems to abandon idea of forcing their store for each game supporting their platform,
- they did not prepare library of decent newest games for the release day.

Conclusion - Steam Machines have no target other than us - people supporting Linux gaming, because they want their favourite OS to grow...
I agree that Machines was overpriced. If I was Valve the cost of making a in house Machines at this point of time be to costly, even Sony and Microsoft sell it at a lost. I would just started with steam link put a better ARM cpu then add steamos with it. Just to get people use to it then slowly make a better steam link/machines each 2 years.

Wine Staging 2.17 is out with more Direct3D11 features fixing issues in The Witcher 3, Overwatch and more

Someone can clear this up for me, I would think the same thing about Microsoft try to sue the wine team. Due to what Blizzard did with a emulator team using their own sever code, but they still had to go to count. Then give up on the project.

ARK: Survival Evolved has just had a price increase, it has more than doubled
