The excellent survivor-like Halls of Torment is getting a big DLC and free update

Yeah, this is not an autobattler - you are controlling the unit.
I think you can even, if you want, fire shots manually (some games in the genre have that optional feature, not sure if this one).
You can disable autofire. Probably not worth it.

Disabling autoaim can be more beneficial though as you can aim at boss or cut through path through the horde.

There's one character that disables autofire, but gives massive damage boost. Bit annoying to play as firerate is slow.

I wonder if the genre is ready to move out of Vampire Survivors clone status to genre of it's own. Doom had similar influence on genre name before FPS started to replace Doom clone term.

Auto battler seems to be used also for otherwise different games, which happens to have element where you don't directly control the units.

Auto shooter seems to be used for some games in the genre. Bullet heaven is also used.

Halls of Torment was first game in the genre that clicked for me. The mechanic of just moving around and dodging enemies can be bit boring at first if you don't have any direction to go to. Halls of Torment happened to first one I played that pointed where two mystic objects were located and that was enough to get me hooked. I spent 45 hours with the game and updates might give good excuse to play some more.

Jump Space (formerly Jump Ship) arrives September 19 for co-op PvE spaceship fun

I tried the demo in solo, it was fun but tedious, too much work to do around the ship for a single player. But if you can get a group going, I'm sure its going to be a lot of fun.
I think I didn't have as much to do as I mostly flied the ship and robot handled the rest. But I can agree, that it seems it probably is more fun as multiplayer. There's some potential for Barotrauma level mayhem, but the demo didn't get close to that yet.

Outlaws + Handful of Missions: Remaster is the next Nightdive Studios release

Nightdive seems to be hard at work trying to empty my wallet. First Heretic + Hexen and now this. . Though to be honest, Heretic + Hexen is more tempting as I played lot more those, with Outlaws I remember playing just the demo.

Barely noticed anything different. Though now that I'm actually paying attention to the videos, they do make the games look more enticing. And with better format, things probably will improve.

Vampire Survivors is getting an official board game

The best (and admittedly only) board game based on a computer game I played so far is Dorfromantik.
I can imagine that Dorfromantik translates well. Slay the Spire is also pretty good translation, even when there are few modifications to make it multiplayer.

Game world is my nightmare as I like porters and stouts. Don't want either side to win. Played demo long enough have a stout. As my mission was accomplished, I quit the game.

More seriously though, I did play the demo bit longer, but got bit stuck and didn't feel like playing the demo all the way through right now.

It's old fashioned with all the faults included. List of hotspots would be nice, though at least so far each screen doesn't seem to have that many. Also verb lists have had more convenient iterations over the years, but at least "look at" is easily accessible. There are keyboard shortcuts, so by learning those you can play more efficiently.

Change the world around you with unique spells in the colourful puzzle game Rhell: Warped Worlds & Troubled Times

I tried the demo and it's mostly just frustrating.

Fell into a river. There were some places that looked like they were jumping high. They turned to have invisible walls. Had to suicide at waterfall.

Also got stuck at puzzle for a while which actually just required another spell. That's more my fault.

What actually forced me to quit was non existent camera control. It at least seems that there's no way to turn the camera, so some jumping puzzles are very difficult as you can't see what you're doing.

In addition to forming spells feels bit of chore. Especially if you need to switch back and forth between two.

Though I do feel that I should have another go at one of the puzzles...

Played the demo quite a while ago and looks like they manage to go bit further with the concept. Demo was maybe just little bit too simple.

Debian 13 trixie released with Linux kernel 6.12

I actually switched my mothers computer to Debian. Ubuntu started advertising their paid subscription and whole thing got too confusing for somebody who just wants to use the computer for simple stuff.

Also I have Debian in a laptop. Too bad I forgot the encryption password, so might as well upgrade to 13 if I can figure out use case for the laptop.
