Black Mesa — I've been waiting for it to be out of Beta, and now it is! And wow, you can really feel the love they put into it.

Unfortunately due to being in lock-down, the mini-mes keep me too busy to put more than a few hours a week gaming...

Honestly, not the worst idea, as they can then generate the exact binaries they want to. Gentoo makes it easy to generate a slimlined OS.

Dunno, I dropped using Manjaro (which is arch based) due to regular breakage. It's just one user on one os, but I was distinctly unimpressed at how unstable it was for me. I need to use my computer for work too.

That max 40GB memory to me means:
1x8GB soldered on board
1x32GB so-DIMM

what is this trend of soldering RAM onboard high-end laptops? Then we get asymmetrical memory config, meaning memory drops to essentially single-channel, which hampers performance, especially with the new wave of more powerful itegrated graphics.

So, 16GB or bust with this notebook then?

ARM restricts their property too, so can't be totally open source.
Let's face it, OSS's strong point is allowing itself to break ABI.

These vulnerabilities are not directly exploitable, but they can be used to build a model of behviour, and that can be used to spy on people. So it should be adressed.
I wouldn't be surprised that a similar exploit could work on all cpu's with prefetchers. (a larger set than those with speculative execution).

So, is there ever going to a legal resolution to the mfplat issues? Does it require mfplat to be implemented as part of Wine? Or is there patent issues, so unlikely to ever be resolved?

So... this is Epic using their money to, er, skew the market? In essence, equivalent to Intels contra-revenue plans, which was deemed anti-competitive.

I mean it is the "We want to lock you in to use ONLY our products", or make it too expensive to switch away, kind of thing.

Apple's business practices and walled garden chased me off years ago already (Technically I was never "on" it, despite being given a Mac for work, which I just gave back after 2 weeks as I just couldn't deal with all their shit).
So no surprise there.

But MS is doing striving to be like Apple, increasingly locking down control of Windows, so that article seems a bit self-defeating to me.
