AMD reveal prices and availability for Ryzen 7000X3D CPU series
2 Feb 2023 at 4:13 pm UTC

Quoting: WyattTurpinWhen the released the first X3D CPU, even they couldn't beat it easily. This is pretty much AMD just flexing that they have the best X86 CPUs. They soooo need to try getting into RISC CPUs.
Sorry your statement is rather confusing. There is not a single CISC processor on the market. AMD went RISC with the K5 which based on the RISC Am29k. The K6 on the RISC86 from Next. K7 had a lot of influences of DEC Alpha. X86 is only a Frontend Instruktion set not a single x86 sold really uses a x86 Backend. AMD could sure trade out the translator for an ARM CPU. They even did some Prototyps but imho canned it shourtly after.

Looks like a rebrand of the ASRock to me:

I had a forum post about (fanless) sofa-pc with a Asus PN50 which is more or less the same thing. I updated the ASUS with a fanless case "Akasa Turing A50".

Still don't get it why does this is a win for nvidia? The Apple M1 is not a Cortex design. Thus nvidia has no properties there and would still need to develop something. The M1 is ARMv8 instruction compatible but is otherwise Apple own design. It is like saying Intel is the go to CPU supplier because AMD Ryzen shown good performance. You could do a fast general purpose CPU with every modern instruction set.

Quoting: subNvidia has two game changers for gaming platforms on their side.
ARM (see Apple's M1 performance and efficiency) and DLSS.
Don't get it. Why would a game console developer NOW pick Nvidia? because they own ARM? Why they haven't picked an ARM earlier? Mali was always an option or Tegra with or without Nvidia owning the "specification" comapny. With a licence everbody can design an ARM. If Nvidia changes this they can throw away ARM again everybody will switch to RISC V.

DLSS but could be the same as raytracing. If some vendor asks I have no doubt any gpu manufacturer will deliver no matter if AMD, Qualcomm, Apple or Intel.

Slimbook think they have the 'One' for you with their new compact mini-PC

Quoting: GuestSo you both have no idea what you are talking about. Great.
Then better you explain what you're mumbling about.
I opted in particular for a unit with both 2 and 3 versions of USB, as there are USB2 devices that dislike being on USB3 shared with other USB3 devices.
Even worst than that - he has no idea what he is talking about. The amount of USB ports is limited by the Chipset. If they use a A320 chip only one 3.2 Gen 1 and two Gen 2 are possible without an additional USB-PCIe-bridge (i doubt a USB-PCI-PCIe bridge is possible with USB3). Because this is a 4800H it is not unreasonable that they even use a chipset without a single USB3.2 like X300. It is not documented but I would expect Slimbook uses a 560 chipset.

Cross platform Jagged Alliance 2 reimplementation 'Stracciatella' has a new release out
24 Apr 2021 at 3:33 pm UTC

Quoting: TcheyCan you play 1.13 with it ?
No and it is not suppose to do so. The name straciatella already suggest this. I was in touch with Tron back in 2008 or so and he explicitly made the decision to stay "vanilla" and focus on bugfixes and smaller addition which doesn't change the behaviour of the original game. But I do wonder the accent-issue of the french translation. Afaik tron changed the char encoding to UTF8, but not sure ... it is more than 10years ago...

I never followed 1.13 devolopment in detail but afaik they patched alot in the code thus it isn't easily possible to support both. But saying this the current changes done by the new devs seems to go in the direction of making the game easier moddable.

Intel hits a new milestone with the Iris Xe "DG1" desktop graphics
28 Jan 2021 at 8:06 am UTC

The German IT-page 'heise.de' claims the card requires a special mainboard BIOS enhancement. Thus the card will only work with mainboards provided with those enhancement by the OEMs. So the card is kind of software dongled. If this is true it isn't a standalone card in my eyes. Of course it isn't sold as a single pice, but afaik very uncommon for GPU aimed for desktop PC market.

I doubt we will see a Ryzen 2200G or even 2200GE. It would make no sense to use a socket processor for a embedded system. Especially because a Embedded Ryzen was announced in February for gambling hall computers.

I would love to see a Ryzen V1605B (like in the Smash-Z) but with the price tag of "only" 200$ I'm afraid it could be only a V1202B which wouldn't be capable enough to play most steam games. But maybe they really have a deal with AMD and design a cross over of both designs: "V1205B" - a 2 core cpu with Vega 8?!

If somebody has a notebook with an Ryzen 5 2500U. You could give some intel what FPS you currently have in games. Would be very interesting to read!
