Slime Rancher is another Unity game to have black screen problems on Linux, here's a temp fix

I thought this was well known. Also, if the workaround makes the game open in a fullscreen-sized window offset from the centre, and your WM allows it, you can manually move it into position and undecorate it (maximizing can sometimes bring on the fullscreen bug). It'll play as if it were fullscreen. It's a bit of a faff, but you only have to do it once every time you play.
Can you hear that? It's the Steam sales train and it's arrived, also Steam Wishlist revamp

My main issue with it, though, is that it seems so... soulless. I mean it's enjoyable enough, but it just never seemed to grab me. I've never found myself standing in a queue in the supermarket thinking, “Dammit, I'd really rather be playing Victor Vran right now”.
Maybe I should give it another chance. People obviously see something in it.
But yeah, the new wishlist is hardly a thing of eternal beauty, but it's okay. Does the job.

Quoting: sn0rlaxPerhaps someone can enlighten me on why Victor Vran is recommended. I bought it and it's the worst performing game I've ever played. Seems like a garbage port. Are you getting good performance from it?I wouldn't say it's the worst-performing I've ever seen, but there's definitely something not right with it. For the most part it's fairly playable here, but there are some areas - the main castle, for example - where the framerate drops like a stone for no readily apparent reason. On the face of it, it looks like one of the less-demanding areas in the game, yet that's where it seems to struggle.

Quoting: no_information_hereIt is the new trend. Make everything look like a blown up smartphone. The wasted space on web pages is just an incurable disease now. I gave up being angry when my bank switched to a completely unusable interface. This new steam thing isn't nearly as terrible.Huge text is my personal bugbear. It's 2018. Why are we still using absolute pixel values? I get that people have HDPI displays now, but that shouldn't mean half-inch high letters on my old steam-powered monitor. Scaling, people, scaling.
But yeah, the new wishlist is hardly a thing of eternal beauty, but it's okay. Does the job.
Valve has boosted their Linux ranks by hiring another developer to work on open source graphics

Hey, they're gamers. They know how this works. You don't attack an overwhelmingly superior enemy straight out of the box; you build your strength and gradually eat away at his defences until you've evened out the odds.
Valve are levelling Linux gaming up. :)

It's going to be interesting to see what kind of splash Valve makeI don't think, at this stage, a splash is what they intend to make. As natewardawg says, I think this about the long game, quietly making Linux a more viable gaming platform as a hedge against Microsoft. Put another way, I see them as trying to gradually reduce Redmond's dominance over time rather than attack it head-on.

Looks really good. But although racing games are by far my favourite genre, I still find it hard to justify shelling out so much cash (almost as much as I paid for my entire PC, not counting the GTX 750 I shoved in it a couple of years back) to make two games - DIRT Rally and GRID Autosport - a bit better. In fact, although I say so myself, I'm pretty good at GAS with an XBox controller, so it's really only DR that would benefit.
I'd love one, but not until I win the lottery. :(

The developers of fan-made Halo game 'Project Contingency' have decided not to support Linux

Quoting: SpaceAceWhat bothers me the most about it isn't that we're missing out on a game, but that these uneducated and simply false statements could be easily read by those who have also convinced themselves that Linux support isn't worthwile; and used to spread more fud about our platform.Excellent point. Frankly, I don't think such a tiny developer's statements will have much of an impact but, as you say, it all adds to the pile.

Quoting: GuestWow, they basically just put out a post saying that they don't know what they're doing.Yeah, I think we're better off without this one, to be honest. I'm not saying I wouldn't like a fan-made Halo remake, but it's hardly GTA or Skyrim, and you can see where this would lead. Their Linux support would be terrible, the community would get angry, the developers would become disillusioned, and ultimately the bad publicity would stick to the Linux community, not them, simply because there are more people not using Linux - who'll be receptive to their side of the story - than are.
Martian city builder 'Surviving Mars' release date announced with a new trailer

It's a subtle thing, I'm sure it doesn't bother everyone, and it varies in extent from game to game (Stellaris has a beginning, middle, and end, for example, yet it's well worth replaying), but I found it particularly noticable in T5.

Quoting: razing32Hmm , i did not play Tropico 5 .Oh yes, there were. But my point is that if there's a story, it becomes the main driver for playing. If it hadn't been there in the first place, the lack of plot-led motivation wouldn't be as apparent in sandbox or fan-made levels.
Where there no extra missions , free paly or an editor ?

By sheer coincidence, I've just watched Scott Manley's video [External Link] on this. Oh, that looks good.
My only reservation would be that Tropico 5 (also Haemimont) left me with the impression that adding a story to a city builder maybe isn't such a great idea as it sounds. Once I'd completed it, I never really felt the urge to play it again. That said, although there's a tech tree and obviously some storyline involving those black cube things, it doesn't seem to be as heavily plot-driven as T5, so maybe they've learned from it.
Looking forward to it, but I'll wait for reviews.
