ID Software Moving Further Away From Linux, QuakeLive Going Native

Quoting: Quote from fabertaweQuake blew me away at the time and is still one of my all time favourite games. Admittedly I've not played that many FPS as I've only been a sporadic Windows user but it was about the only one I can remember where I thought the music added to the experience, superbly atmospheric. Without wanting to sound patronising, unless you lived through these changes in computing it might be hard to imagine how exciting something like Quake was! Super graphical games are the norm, run-of-the-mill now. That's for another thread though!

ID innovated at that time but since have stagnated somewhat. I really enjoyed Doom and Quake 4 also. Thanks for the memories ID.
Feel this is pretty spot on with what i feel about ID. I love thier innovations but not their games if you follow. The quake engine and doom where marvels of the technology at the time but i think others put it to better use. These days you don't see ID trying as hard and its a shame.

Project CARS Will Have a SteamOS Linux Version
8 Nov 2013 at 3:36 pm UTC

I will try it, might even buy a steambox if it is inside my price range.
Since SteamOS is opensource any functionality we need to make work on any other distros can be emulated easily (but i don't think its likely.)

More players to the source games (from linux and mac) and to Xonotic, alien arena, etc. !

go play them ! :)
Second this. Xonotic has enough players, features, maps and options to replace quake live. No subs needed. Also IMO its prettier.

Anyone who looks at linux like a percentage of users is ignorant. We could look at windows in relation to contributations to the operating system ecosystem and then i wonder who has a greater perentage. This statement is just a mix of bad marketing decisions and quite honestly laziness on the part of the developers (Yes, developing cross compatible games is much easier these days than developers care to mention)

Team Fortress 2 Gains VR Support On Linux

The problem with getting a rift for me is:
 - Price is a bit steep for me.
 - Waiting on the proposed HD version of the kit.

But i'm looking forward to it and the new Source SDK actually added support in the code for any mods to be compatible, look out for that one.

7 Days To Die Taken Down From Steam
23 Oct 2013 at 3:08 pm UTC

It's unfortunate that they ended up making a mistake like that and hopefully it won't destroy any relationships with Steam or Tripwire. I guess its just a misunderstanding but if i were the developers i would try to make as many of my own assets as possible and any gaps in ability could be purchased but they really should have made sure before they pushed for a release. I'm surprised it wasn't found sooner to be honest.

Unity might need some kind of certification system that the content pushed to their store is of the authors own in the future as its part responsibility of Unity to make sure content is legally allowed to be sold.

The Wine Development Release 1.7.3 Is Now Available
28 Sep 2013 at 6:26 pm UTC

That bug.
Also sent a note to wine-devel noting the successful run of a virus.
Glad that the Wine devs are intelligent to not let any windows programs near linux itself. Although it does worry me that viruses can still run from wine themselves attacking other things, guess it serves them right for using Windows :P.

As for wine, apart from a few programs it works great after the 1.7 update. Ofc i ALWAYS suggest porting programs rather than wining them no matter how complex because it always will yield better results.
