If we are presuming that Unix ~= Linux then I could possibly take the job but I would not want to relocate at all. I sorta like it here.

Ubuntu 14.04 as it provides Linux 3.15 which is a must have.
According to this [External Link] Ubuntu will have mesa 10.2 very soon. For now you will have mesa 10.1.3 but I'm sure within a few weeks you should get these sort of numbers.
Getting mesa should be a simple case of going through this [External Link].

Quoting: AnonymousHow can I install it. I'm using radeon 7770 ?Righty, after a bit of reading the things you will need:

Quoting: HamishI suppose these improvements are mostly limited to radeonsi and not r600g?You should get some improvements as I've seen patches flying around about the r600 series but in general a 4670 is going to struggle against newer titles, although Source & Xonotic should be able to compensate quite well.
Not that I am complaining mind; it is getting to the point with my Radeon HD 4670 that it is the hardware and not the driver performance that is slowing me down on some newer titles. The card is from 2008 after all, and has already given me almost four years solid service.

Quoting: abelthorneI find the results a bit strange. I use Ubuntu 14.04 with an AMD RadeonHD 7700 and the free driver (RadeonSI). I'm not sure of the version of Mesa I have (10.0.x, I think) but I'm pretty sure I have more than 25 fps in Team Fortress 2 (the game is completely playable). My GPU isn't the same model as in the chart but it's the same generation, I guess the results should be about the same.I will concede I did a much more thorough benchmark this time round than last but I did indeed get those low numbers and it was barely playable. I'm not sure what clicked, perhaps a bug somewhere with my card.
That's great if performances are boosted, I'm not complaining; it's just that the blue columns in the chart seem a bit low to me.

Catalyst is the all in one driver.
Mesa + Radeon-Kernel-Stuff = one driver

Quoting: KyleThis is probably a really basic question, but is Mesa the graphics driver that ships with Ubuntu & Linux Mint? Or is it completely different? I usually use the Catalyst from AMD, but have never really experimented with open source drivers. Thanks!Mesa is the software that processes actual graphics for your hardware under OpenGL. For simplicitys sake, Catalyst and Mesa are essentially the same thing just that Mesa is opensource.

Quoting: GuestPlease give us examples of how programming a GPU via "bare metal" is easier than using OpenGL. Also show that such programming is not only simple, but portable across vendors and GPU architectures. He can't, there aren't any released platforms for 'radeon' which provide access to do that.
Otherwise, I just saw a lot words with no substance aimed directly at trying to derail the topic.

Quoting: FutureSutureEven Nvidia to an extent :PQuoting: berarmaI think Mesa improvements are good for EVERYONE. I'd like Mesa made propietary OpenGL drivers irrelevant and that manufacturers like AMD, Nvidia and Intel just distributed Mesa drivers.AMD and Intel are on that path, but Nvidia? ;)
