Quoting: BielFPsIs O3DE very different from the current Lumberyard used on New World?
O3DE lacks many lumberyard/cryengine features and has new renderer which completely breaks compatibility, most of changes are I guess due to wish to cut as much cryengine tails as possible, so lots of stuff is missing and has no actual replacements. If you're not ready to dive into C++ code and not ready for some surprises, I can't recomment O3DE or Godot to use for any serious development. For small range projects both are OK now (O3DE has very high hardware requirements though in comparison to Godot 3.x).

Quoting: slapinTo me, Godot 3.x weak point lies not in render but in data model design, especially how it handles geometry.
Everything can be bypassed in Godot except that, and that is major problem preventing implementation of streaming systems = no larger worlds :(
Updating geometry produce major stuttering and consumes most of frame, and it is impossible to do partial updates (i.e. index buffer only).
you mean stuff like level of details? i saw an plugin for that.
but texture stream is an feature that godot indeed lack.

now, if only we could have something like nanite, lumen and asset stream...
Not only texture, geometry, audio, etc. are not streamable. It is just not there in any way.
For 2D games that is not issue, but for 3D that hits quite hard.

Godot 4 is looking too far into the future as well as they drop OpenGL support and 3.x branch does have major bottlenecks preventing creating large 3D projects with it... I wonder what is easier to do - add OpenGL support back to Godot 4 or O3DE? Also I don't see major improvements overall for Godot 4 except for graphics, so I guess most major bottlenecks are still there, right?

The more engines the better. This one is however looking too far away into the future...

What's the TL;DR?
Nothing much new, except there is good chance of good resolution of the case. People got a good lawyer and have some strategy.

Probably that is because they limited their audience so much and thus did not work on market acquisition?

DRM is just kind of power game so unless strictly limited they will start your hard drive scanning, check for the content they don't like, mine cryptocurrency on your PC and sell your personal data found on your hard drive. Just because they can. The second people stop caring about DRM it will strike hard, so you're supposed to NEVER stop being against it. It is not about copyright of the company, it is about how much you will give up so the company have control what you do. The only reason most DRMs now don't try to sell your credit card data/IDs, etc. to the paying party are because people do care about that. The morals are left outside and key thrown out a long time ago. Let them have their way and you will have to show your mug on your webcam at all times and never write anything bad on reddit. Just to protect their intellectual property from you thieves.
