Quoting: ConfuciusIs there no way i can grab a key for my friends? They'd only create an account now, so they wouldn't be able to grab a key.

As for my account not having many interactions with the site: I'm just a lurker hehe.

Quoting: silentprocyonTL;DR... Outcome of Oracle feuding with Google is that APIs can now be copyrighted. It started with Oracle acquiring Sun, wanting to make lots of money from Java; not satisfied with just some money, they also attempted to launch their own smartphone venture that failed; after failing in the smartphone business, Oracle sought to make more money from Java by suing Google over the latter copying code from Java (which was not the case) and claimed they owned copyright of the APIs; Oracle had lost in court and appealed, then another court ruled in Oracle's favor over copyright, but ruled that Google's use is "fair use"; not happy with the "fair use" ruling and wanting $9 billion for copyright infringement, Oracle appealed again, battle is still going on in Federal court; might or might not reach Supreme Court.
This will be an epic battle.

Quoting: slaapliedjeI don't know if Trine meets your croteria for a franchise, but all 3 of the trilogy is for Linux. Damn fun I might add.
I have Trine 2. Its good. If Trine 4 then 5 and so on are released, it could be the kind of franchise that I'm referring to.

I think our Linux gaming community cant yet absorb an annual franchise delivery.

I'm from South America but i dont like football videogames, surprisingly. I could buy them to support Linux videogame effort. But, if i bought FM18, why will i buy FM19? Nop. Too much.

There should be small communities of Linux gamers around franchises, as there may be in Windows, to absorb that frecuency. How could we achieve that? Simple math, more gamers.

I personally know that there are many people who dont know that (or dont know how to) Linux could be use for gaming.

What could we do? I supose that one or more of these things: Be supportive and nicer with devs that release linux games. Popularize this site and the like. Think viral, viralize, viracum, all with vira*. Be nicer with linux noobs in general. Other things included...

Steam continues to get bigger, with another record breaking concurrent user count at 17.6 million

Quoting: TcheyI don't believe a Linux console is a solution for Linux gamers. I don't know about you, but around me, me included, all Linux users are doing much more than playing, on their PC.
--speculation----

We are Linux users, ok, agreed. But i am talking about NEW Linux gamers, or, new "Linux gamers" :D (I suspect that most of them will not want to be Linux gamers, let me be rude. I.E. Android users. Most of them do not know they are Linux users, and get shocked to know it)

What is our goal? More games are ported to Linux, period.

The solution is in front of us. Valve SteamOS Consoles (Steam Machines). But, Valve as a leader must promote that, regardless of the hardware. More people will be willing to buy that console IF there is something, whatever something, perhaps like a guarantee that the 40 most played games on Steam will be ported to that console. People need guarantees.

If all goes well, the result will be our happy "Linux users" faces.

--end speculation----

Valve need to be more independent of Microsoft, and they know that.

It must happen one thing for the linux gamer base to grow:

A successful console. (The pc gaming on linux will be low for a long time yet)

A game like PUBG, and the top 40 more played games in Steam could be the answer. Maybe.

Who already has a Linux console? Valve.

What should they do to push forward their console? Make deals with publishers and/or developers of the top 40 list to port those games to the console. And advertise it.

Valve itself must do this. It will not happen miraculously.

Descent (original) is in development. I asked the developers if there will be a Linux version, and they say yes.

Progress in here: https://www.brightlocker.com/games/descent-underground [External Link]

Also, there is another game called Sublevel Zero Redux, with Linux support. PC Gamer compared it with Descent.

Finally, there is a demo of Overload: http://store.steampowered.com/app/450220/Overload_Playable_Teaser_20/ [External Link]
