Valve dumped Debian Linux for Arch Linux with SteamOS 3 because surprise - faster updates

Quoting: fagnerlnAs it's more updated, it need to have a far better debugging and QA tests. I'm not sure if a gaming machine needs updated libraries.
Valve will have to do QA for themselves anyway. They are heavily invested with a lot of upstream libraries at the moment and will probably want to use their latest features. Rolling release distributions do make sense in that regard as the tests distros like debian does would need to be redone anyways after valves changes are applied. So either go full rolling release as a base like Manjaro or do something in the line of packages with mixed recency like KDE Neon. They seem to be tryining the former now. They switch back somewhere in the future.

If you're looking for a virtual table-top check out the latest Foundry VTT

I've been using FoundryVTT for a year now and its just great. With Foundry and Owlbear Rodeo around there is just no reason to use Roll20 anymore.

However, if you are using a lot of modules you should be using 0.7.10 (the previous stable release) for the time being until every developer has had the time to update.

AI-made maps for your favourite adventures? Dungeon Alchemist sounds very interesting

I'd love to try it on my FoundryVTT server but I'm a little sceptical on how much this really adds to the game when compared to other tools like Dungeondraft (+ Forgotten Adventures for more realistic looks).

If someone'd like to try and does need a FoundryVTT server I'd be glad to help & watch. :) (IPv6 required)

I've been using FoundryVTT for quite some time and have to say I really love it. It's still in beta but the stuff you can do and extend my modules is just massive.

Looks nice. Two issues though.

1. Both of your links point to humble.com. Here's a valid Steam link [External Link]
2. The game is not yet available on humble.com

Quoting: GuestMaintaining a full-blown Debian installation just for gaming is a waste of time.
Debian testing xfce [External Link] is far less full blown than SteamOS, Debian testing Xfce fits to a cd-rom disk and it is a stable and compatible rolling release OS.
What's the problem here? Can't you imagine that there are different use cases for different distributions?

My guess is you are not the target audience of SteamOS just like my brother could never configure debianxfce to fit his needs. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
(especially not using his steam controller ^^)

Quoting: GuestThe problem with changing a game substantially with each patch is that people have to re-learn the game. I understand that people who are unemployed and kids who don't care about school exist, but for normal mortals investing so much into a game is not feasible. At the end of the day, it feels like WORK. And we already have a job...
You can just select on older version from the Betas tab and play that if you want to avoid learning the new mechanics.
Of course, and forfeit recent bugfixes, QoL improvements, and other additions...
Can't have it all. Plus, I have yet to see a Stellaris version that was broken to the point of being unenjoyable, so playing a previous version is not exactly an impossible feat. I think you are just being difficult.
I am not being difficult, i am just expressing a different opinion. I am not the only one who can't be bothered re-learning a game that was a CONSIDERABLE TIME INVESTMENT to learn in the first place...

I am not the only one who thinks that gameplay should be done correctly the first time, not literally changing everything after release. Install 1.0 of Stellaris and tell me it has any resemblance to the 2.2 version, at all... So what happened, was it an early access game that was prone to change, sold as a full price product? Why should we accept this behavior?

It is not that i am being difficult, it is YOU who are not more critical of this situation.
Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best

Yeah, just play an older version if adapting your strategy feels to hard. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
That's one of the beauties of Paradox games -- you can just revert.

I've personally been waiting for this patch for a very long time. In my opinion this is a major quality improvement and I actually enjoy exploring the new possibilities this upgrade provides.
