Yeah, in the end what does it matter, if it performs well and is supported by developers. It's actually good they are using open source tools like dxvk, instead of closed ones like Feral do.

You could use dxvk without Wine, yes. But it's still wrapping, not a fully native renderer. That's why Feral ones aren't really native either.
By native renderer I mean one that doesn't need translating DX abstractions into Vulkan ones (on whatever stage, at compile time, at runtime etc.).

Yeah, I don't think blob proponents are going to agree with FOSS supporters. So let's not flame this.
What's clear however is the position of the Linux project itself (i.e. kernel developers and maintainers). Linux is rooted in FOSS, and blob approach is not something that Linux as a project appreciates. It might be merely tolerated, but it's not a good thing. There is nothing to debate about that, and blob proponents like Nvidia know it well.

Quoting: scaineI might take a look at upgrading early next year, assuming the prices don't sky rocket thanks to mining (again).I've read somewhere, AMD are planning to introduce new cards specifically for mining, so it should be better than before.

Quoting: elmapulI was talking about valve own games being steam exclusives.Ah, that. You can say so. But for instance CDPR released Witcher games on Steam, no problem. And they sell very well everywhere.

Lock-in though is a more practical issue with Steam, rather than exclusivity. Such as when developers are using Steam network services. That ties games to Steam.

Quoting: elmapulsteam isnt chasing exclusivity? No, as far as I know they don't force developers not to release anywhere else like console stores do. When stuff isn't out let's say on GOG and is on Steam it's not because Valve made them sign some contract if I understand correctly.

Quoting: elmapulthen prove me wrong, were is this magic platform that is sucessful despite the lack of exclusives? Most games stores aren't chasing exclusives and they are successful. GOG, Steam etc. Only consoles are obsessed with it.

Quoting: illwieckzI guess that may be a variant of this that would still uses computer's SSD (so they don't have to ship it themselves, to reduce price) but in a way performance approach this. There was huge improvements in PCIe and specific AMD technologies for interconnecting things last years. It's not OS dependent? I.e. would it work on Linux too?
