Quoting: BrissePretty much every "tripple A" release these days are littered with DRM in many different forms such as Denuvo, proprietary launchers, unnecessary tacked on online requirements etc... Some work fine in Wine, some don't. And yea, I agree those games mostly suck. Indies have done some amazing things and they're often DRM free, multi-platform, consumer friendly etc...
Less than before IMHO. There are more big budget games coming out DRM-free these days than 5-10 years ago. DRM situation is improving to some extend.

The common offenders are the likes of MS and etc. who outright buy DRM-free friendly studios.

Some information on why Wine is not going to be using DXVK

Quoting: GuestI think you misunderstand. An issue of wine integration was raised, and closed rejected. What would be the reason to open one again?
Because we aren't dealing with robots here. What was rejected before can change later, also depending on who is asking. Happens all the time - maintainers are people.

Quoting: GuestNot quite sure how that changes anything. Wine dev or not, the issue was raised and rejected. Raising it again makes little sense to me, unless there's the expectation of a different answer (no indications of that though).
No one stopped them trying. Takes a few minutes to open an issue with a comment. It's also clearly public.

Quoting: GuestThis already happened, and was closed. I'll let the reader find it through google.
That wasn't by Wine developers though, so nothing stopped them from doing it again.

Quoting: FredOThe Witcher 3 (Proton) - after 73 hours of gameplay I finally reached the end of the main storyline. The hype about this game is validated...
Quoting: amataiThe Witcher 3, I'm destroying my overwhelmingly Linux Only play times, but this game worth it

Quoting: jensI get that a posting like this on the wine mailing list is welcome feast for sites like phoronix or here, though I very much doubt that taking this into public and the obviously following speculations will do any good.
Well, it's better to take this public, to resolve whatever blockers they have, than just to abandon all collaboration. Not sure if Henri tried other means of resolving it, before resorting to such measures.

Sounds like communication issue which could be solved with some persistence. Simply opening a dxvk bug tracker issue about collaboration could have been effective even.

Putting games across multiple stores is not easy, as developers keep noting recently

It's not the GUI that's an issue here it seems, but what their backends support. Whether it's GUI or CLI is probably not going to make a major difference for developers, but backend features affect how many steps they need to take.
