winepak, a project to get Windows games packaged with Wine & Flatpak for an easy Linux installation

I don't mind tinkering with Wine. One problem with "just works" approach that was also used for example in PlayOnLinux installation scripts for games, is that it grew huge and no one was maintaining those scripts. So they quickly became obsolete. It's safer just to install something yourself using newest submissions in Wine AppDB.

It also will likely erode Nvidia's lock-in (CUDA and etc.) if Intel and AMD will join forces behind open compute stack.

Great development if Intel will keep drivers open.

Firstly, I'm not sure how correct his statement is. Many brought quite solid counter arguments to his claims. Secondly, we can't really make conclusions on their future plans from that. Things can change same way they changed last time.

Quoting: edenistDidn't they come out a few years back [when talking about the linux port of Witcher 2] and basically say that the caustic attitude of the linux community put them off wanting to do future linux versions?
I don't think they ever commented on their failed Linux plans publicly and on how it affects their future games specifically. The only one speaking about it was former Virtual Programming developer Peter Mullholand, who left VP at that time already, so it was his personal opinion rather CDPR's position on it.

Quoting: wolfyrionMicrosoft announced at E3 today that they have acquired Forza Horizon developer PlayGround Games, State of Decay developer Undead Labs, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice developer Ninja Theory, and We Happy Few developer Compulsion Games.

They will also be founding a new studio in Santa Monica called The Initiative. The Initiative is a Santa Monica studio lead by Darrell Gallagher, who Xbox head Phil Spencer said is “a visionary storyteller” who has worked on “some of the most iconic franchises for over 20 years,” such as Tomb Raider.
Quite a lot of good potential wasted (for Linux gaming). Here the common expectation applies fully - whatever MS touches, turns to garbage.

Quoting: LeopardThat silence means NO.
Silence means they messed up and don't want to talk about it. But it says nothing about what else they can decide.

CDPR have a strong stance on being DRM-free, and so far they are not changing it, so for CP2077 it is expected. I'm more interested in what happened to their Linux plans. They messed up TW3 for Linux plans and never talked publicly about what it means for future games.

MS won't go so far as to disrupt existing agreements, at least I don't expect them to. But to push exclusivity after that, is something "new" MS is totally expected to do.

I'm glad to hear it's still coming, but it's probably going to be a problem for their future games after We Happy Few. With MS in control they will likely not crowdfund them anymore, and I expect that Linux and DRM-free releases won't be in their plans either.
