Quoting: ScooptaOk so let's rephrase this. How many Windows exclusive games that we want on Linux are DRM free. I personally don't know of any but maybe I'm in the minority.I suppose a lot? I only play DRM-free games, and there are quite a few I'd like to see ported to Linux. It's not like it isn't already happening, quite a number of good games come out for Linux DRM-free, but I'm talking about Feral in particular. They didn't participate in any of them unlike other porters. Which is unlikely a coincidence, and more likely reflects Feral's attitude towards this topic.

Quoting: GuestJust don't expect any company to listen if you say that a game can't run under wine and they should fix it.In my experience, Wine developers can pick up such bug and fix it eventually, and anyone can contribute to the project with patches as well. So on one hand you have commercial wrapper with official support for a given time period, and you have a FOSS translation framework that isn't specifically focused on one title, but can as well support it eventually too. Personally, I simply like FOSS idea more, but I surely appreciate focused support.

Quoting: ScooptaI'm not sure that's in their hands. If they did DRM free the publishers they work with would probably throw a fit. After all it's not their IP. They're just licensing it for porting purposes. They choose whom they work with. So to rephrase it, they didn't choose to port any DRM-free game so far.

Quoting: GuestIt has the opposite effect as well. While Feral, Aspyr and VP support the game for some period of time, and after that - tough luck expecting any changes, Wine on the other hand has no time limit, and you can see developers fixing bugs which affect old games. That's just the nature of the FOSS project. So in a sense Wine actually offers better long term support.Quoting: ShmerlTo be fair, it's only useful if a company supports the game running under wine (and will typically provide a basic packaged version with the game). Feral, Aspyr, VP, etc, do actually offer a level of support - if you buy the game, it should run if your system meets their spec. If you buy a game expecting it to run under wine and it doesn't, then tough luck.Quoting: omer666Last time I checked, The Witcher 1 ran really well in Wine, so I don't know if a port would be a great idea...In practice, that soon would be said about many of the listed games too. Wine competes with Feral's wrapper. So does it mean they shouldn't port anything? I personally think more competition is good.

Quoting: GuestSomething DRM-free.Indeed. Not sure what Feral's problem is, but they still didn't release even a single game DRM-free.

The Witcher 3. Though I expect Wine to run it well before any such port surfaces.

Quoting: scaineAnd it's unlikely to grow - dual booters will continue to dual boot after all,Wine only now starts reaching decent usability for DX11 games, so it means the number of dual booters will start dropping.

Gearbox don't have the best reputation. In fact, some backers were upset about this partnership. But they aren't taking away control from the creators.

We plan to release the Linux version on or shortly after the full 1.0 release, but as you stated porting/developing a game for another OS is not always a straightforward thing.
