The open source recreation of Daggerfall hits an important milestone

Quoting: MayeulCI am just curious to know the answer: why didn't they use OpenMW's engine? Is this game really that different?
Is it a total recreation of the game (assets and everything), or just the game engine?
I suspect the answer would be something like "developer knew Unity and had no time to invest in other engines". Which is OK, it's their time, but makes their project non open really, since others can't just go and build it from source to get a playable game even if they have game assets.

Since it's using Unity, I won't call it open source really. Their own part is open, but the engine is not. In contrast, OpenMW is actually using a FOSS engine - Open Scene Graph [External Link].

Will Cry Engine be developed further? If yes, then who cares about Lumberyard.

Quoting: jensI'm a little bit allergic against people that avoid anything like Steam on one side but tend to blame gaming studios for not supporting Linux on the other side.
How exactly is decision to be Steam exclusive (like Feral games) is related to releasing or not releasing for Linux? If anything, those who are interested in releasing for Linux, should address DRM-free gamers as their audience instead of ignroing. In fact many studios do just that quite consistently.

Quoting: adamhmI'll buy it if/when it gets released on GOG/DRM-free. Until then, I have plenty of other games.
I'm sorry to say for you, but I guess then you will never play this one.

A pity Bioshock games never came out on GOG. Also, you didn't mention Painkiller games. Hell and Damnation has Linux version, but it's not on GOG either.

From the classics, Return to Castle Wolfenstein itself is a very good single player game with an open engine.
